ECU Removal and Installation For 850

The area circled in red above is the area that you need to turn your attention to. Once you remove the top of the box you will have easy access to the ECU. To remove the top of the box release the two clips that hold it in place, as shown below. It is best to use a screwdriver to release the clip on the passenger side of the ECU box.

Once you have the top removed, all you have to do is remove the ECU from the zero insertion force socket. Lift the metal retainer, as it comes up in its arch it will release the ECU. Do not attempt to remove the ECU until the arm is all the way to the right. With the arm in the right, unlatched, position the ECU will lift easily out. When you install the new ECU you should start with the retainer on the right and re install in the reverse order. Once the new ECU is installed you can reinstall the cover.

Initializing New ECU

This procedure is specifically for a PES ECU

Step 1 Insert key and turn the key to position II. Do not touch accelerator!
Step 2

Verify that the check engine light is on.

Step 3 Wait 15 seconds.
Step 4 Start the car. Do not touch the accelerator!
