Horn Relocation

A simple procedure to move the horns away from in front of the Intercooler.

Tools Needed:
Thin Flathead Screwdriver, 12mm Socket Wrench, 12mm Open Ended Wrench

With the hood open, the first step is to remove the left horn. To accomplish this remove the wiring harness by depressing it and pulling straight back. Once this is done remove the 12mm bolt that holds in in place. You may wish to mark which horn is which.

Next, remove the clip shown above (note arrow) and put it to the side for later use. Now remove the wiring bundle from the remaining two clips that run along the bottom . You need to leave those two clips where they are so they can continue to hold the washer fluid tubing.

You should now have something that looks like this. Next, remove the right horn in the same manner as you did the left.

The next step is to remount the two horns in a somewhat dry and protected space where they can still be heard. A good place is under the left side of the air dam. The blue arrow points to a metal bracket that retains some tubing. That was the chosen location for one horn. Use the same bolt that came off the front of the car and used a hole that was already in the bracket. The second horn is mounted with the screw that held the splash guard to the subframe. You want to make sure that the horns face down to assure that any water that gets in them can drain.

Now, you need to fish down the wires and reconnect the horns. Once that was done, take the clip you removed earlier and used it to secure the wire loom to the splash guard and tucked up any excess wire. If you live someplace that see a lot of rain, you may consider making some splash gaurds for your horns. Copper flashing painted black works great. Just cut the flashing to shape and secure it with a few 6mm bolts. If water does find its way into your horns, don't worry. A paper towel and some IPA and they will be good as new.
