This trim panel and the left side trim will have to be removed to route the harness, along with both the left side door sill moldings, the left rear seat bolster and the driver's side lower dash panel and Styrofoam knee bar pad.
The rear trunk trim panel can be removed by turning the slotted trim fasteners a ¼ turn in either direction and popped out. Then lift the trim piece up to disengage the hidden clips that hold it in place. The left rear trim panel can be partially removed by turning its slotted trim fasteners a ¼ turn in either direction and popping them out as well. Route the harness for the K40 along the tail light wiring harness and then along the left side of the car, through the tunnel toward the front.
Next remove the left rear seat bolster by lifting it up and out.

Then remove the hidden screw for the left rear door sill molding.

Pop the molding off and the left front door sill molding. Then remove the lower dash panel and knee bar pad. Route the harness through the tunnel to the trunk on the left rear side.

Then run it along the side of the harness under the seat bolster, under the carpet up to the dash.

With all the peripherals mounted, it's
time to mount the warning lights, power light and control pod.
The warning lights can be configured two different ways. If you want to keep
the installation as compact as possible, wire the system for two light operation.
This will require hooking up the warning light wire from the laser pod to the
yellow wire on the control pod. When hit by a laser, the control pod will flash
both the front and rear radar detector lights at the same time along with the
audible laser warning. If you wire it for three warning lights as I have in
this installation, leave the yellow wire for the laser integration disconnected
and hook up the warning light wire to, of all things, the laser warning LED.
I chose to have a three warning light set up for this installation with the
front and rear radar warnings on the left side of the instrument panel and the
laser warning in between the temp gauge and the speedometer.

First remove the dash pad. This can be accomplished by removing the speaker grills, which pop off, the A/C vents which also pop out. (Don't forget the side window vents, there are hidden bolts behind them)

Remove the Torx bolts that hold the upper dash pad to the dash panel assembly.

This is the reason to remove all the A/C vents. Volvo likes to hide fasteners behind them.
