If you are running any
wire or sensor through the firewall, it is always best to use a OEM
pass through location if one is available. The driver side pass through
discussed in the boost gauge DIY, is great for vacuum lines and thing
wire but what about for heavier wire, or harnesses? For this I suggest
use of the passenger side firewall pass through. Start by removing the
3 torx that hold up the passenger side kick panel. Now peel back the
carpet and you will see the think OEM Volvo sound deadening mats.
Located ~8 inches away from the fender and directly behind the glove
box, you will see a white "X" like the one highlighted below. Cut a
square around this "X" to expose the pass through grommet.

Now, using your finger
push the grommet out and into the engine bay paying attention to where
it goes. Shown below is the firewall grommet. It has access to pass
through 1 0ga wire and 2 8ga wires.

Below is the engine
side of the pass through. Unlike the driver side pass through, there is
no long tube you have to fish through on the passenger side.

Cut the tip off
whatever size pass through you need, and thread your wire through. It
is
easy to reinstall the grommet from the inside of the car by pushing it
back through.
Shown above is a 0ga
wire going through the factory pass through. This wire was run to the
trunk for a Kicker amp install.
