98-00 XC Turbo Return Line

You can look at the post for the turbo return line repair on the FWD cars to get a better idea of what the brace that holds the two pipes together, because on the AWD you can't really see the bracket you have to take off. It is held in place by a 10mm bolt and nut. I reach up over the front differential from the passenger side with a ¼ drive and work the nut loose. When you go to actually put the turbo oil return line back in make sure the old "O" ring is out, and a little lube will help you work the new "O" ring in the hole in the block. Put the "O" ring on the pipe then fit it into the hole, make sure you don't pinch it.

Once the bracket is off, you will need to take off the two 5mm hex screws that hold the pipe to the bottom of the turbo. Some cars have a 30mm torx, but most are 5mm hex. I use a ¼ swivel on a long extension. There is a coolant pipe just above the hex that may stop you from being able to free up the pipe, you can just move that pipe to the left a bit with a pry bar (gently) and that will help get the pipe out. When you have everything loose, I pull it out right where we are looking in the picture. When going back in, I use some tacky stuff to hold the green gasket to the pipe so I don't have to fight that falling down. (make sure the old green gasket is down/off)
