850 Oxygen Sensor Replacement
From Bay 13
If you have determined that your front oxygen sensor (or rear) has been setting codes that return after clearing, it is time to replace the sensor. The Pictures and discussion will be aimed at the front sensor, but as you will see the connections and wire run for the rear is one in the same.

To start with, the above photo shows the old sensor (left) and the new sensor (right). The new sensor has an added wiring harness/connector. This extra section of wiring is to help keep reference wires from clogging up with various engine deposits over time. When purchasing a new sensor be sure to clarify "turbo" or 'Non-turbo". When you get the new sensor make sure you have the extra wiring harness (it should be connected), the front sensors have a black connector and the rear sensors have a light gray connector. The remaining pictures are from a "non-turbo", which make it easier to take pictures of, however the ""turbo" components are in the same place, just a bit harder to get at because of the turbo piping.

Above shows the two connectors. Remove the silver pre-heater piping from the exhaust heat shield to the bottom of the air box to get the above picture.

Above is a zoom shot of the connectors. Black on the left being the front HO2S connector and the light gray on the right being the rear HO2S connector. The black connector has been forced off the stand off bracket that holds the connector in place. The yellow circles show the gray one in place and the black one off. The black connector also shows the red tab lifted up. I use a small pocket screw driver to pry the red tab up. I usually pry the tab up before forcing it off the holding bracket. Once the red tab is up the connector will come out the back.
