Is all of your hard work putting more stress on your
transmission?
This is a good start for stress relief!

Rating: 8.66
The plate design of this unit is excellent
for this application. Plate coolers have a few advantages over fin style coolers,
most notably phenomenal fluid surface area for their size and more durability
than fin coolers. The only draw back to this cooler, is the need for a few
obscure parts. The trouble is well worth it for a compression hose mounted
cooler that does not obstruct your radiator.
Fit:
9
Although
this cooler is a universal model, the fit was amazing. As long as you have
an opening in the front of your airdam, this unit will fit perfectly. The
only thing that would have made the installation easier would be to provide
the required fittings. B&M uses NPT fittings which are traditionally not
found on cars. In my opinion compression, or AN fittings would have been more
appropriate. Click
here for installation instructions.
Finish: 7
While the finish is not awful, it
was not the show quality that it was advertised as. The edges on the frame
had burs, there were areas that were not polished completely, and some of
the tolerances were a little sloppy. Overall I would qualify the looks of
the cooler as "good", not excellent
Performance: 10
Do transmissions need coolers? The
answer is yes. This fact is even acknowledged by the factory as noted by the
factory installation of a cooler on every Volvo. So that should be good enough
right? Most people agree it's not, especially for performance modified vehicles. The
stock cooler is cooled by the radiator. The problem with that is the coolant
in the radiator is close to 180 degrees. Most transmission fluids start to
break down at 195 degrees. B&M
quotes that 90% of transmission failures are caused by heat. That number should
be enough to make many of you consider this modification. For those of you
still not convinced, this cooler will add 1 quart to your total transmission
fluid volume. That alone will offer additional protection.
