The finishing touch for a true performance custom exhaust install.

Stainless steel flex joint available from Autosupermart
Rating scale is from 1 to 10. Low being 1 high being 10
Rating: 7.5
Flex joints are mainly used for two reasons.
The first is vibration. The close to 10 feet of exhaust pipe can act like
a tuning fork if there is nothing installed to prevent this. The second is
engine torque. When the engine revs, it rocks on its mounts. With 10 foot
of solid pipe acting as leverage, it is not hard to see how extreme stress
could be placed on the exhaust studs or turbo. If you have the stock downpipe
you already have a flex pipe. If you have a custom unit though, there is a
good chance you do not and maybe should consider this modification.
Fit:
NA
If you order the right size, there
will be no problems during the install. I went for the weld in joint over
the more complex flange units. Any exhaust shop should be able to install
either unit in under 30 minutes.
Finish: 5
The finish was of an average level.
While everything important was in order, small things tended to draw attention.
The entire inside tube was covered in burs which had to be removed.
Performance: 10
After installing this joint the car
was noticeably quieter. I also expect this will help stop the downpipe flange
bolts from backing off.
Note: I will publish any issues as they arise.
Price 30-70 dollars depending
on application
