Looking for the highest performing streetable pads?
Mintex C-Tech Pads from CFI
Motorsports
Rating: 7
These are great pads for a performance application.
The low rating is based mostly on the poor appearence, which has nothing to
do with how they perform.
Fit:
10
As one would expect the pads installed with no complications. The longest
part of this installation is cutting the shims, and waiting for the backing
grease to dry.
Finish: 5
The Mintex Red Box pads normally come
with the shims precut and installed. But for some reason the more expensive
C-Tech pads do not. Cutting the shims and installing them takes about 15 minutes.
However, custom cutting the shims
does not produce the same factory look. This may or may not be of concern
depending on your rims, and how much of the calipers you can see.
Performance: 6
Performance, when it comes to brake
pads is a very personal thing. For that reason performance has been broken
down into 4 categories.
Fade Resistance:
9 Fade resistance is excellent. The last 20 feet of stopping feels as
strong as the first 20.
Initial Bite:
8 Initial bite is better than average. Good initial bite is something
that is rare in high performance pads. A lot of performance pads are notorious
for poor grip, until they heat up.
Noise:
3 These pads do make noise. Even with shims and backing grease these
pads make a very quiet hiss. With the radio on the noise is inaudible. Even
rolling up the windows dampens the noise. However, if you want silent pads
these are not what you want.
Dust:
5 These pads produce an average amount of dust. The dust is a dark black dust,
very comparable to stock.
Bottom line: These are very good performance pads and are track suitable. If you are looking for quiet, dustless "grocery getter" pads, consider staying stock.
Note: I will publish any issues as they arise.
