Jacobs Electronics Ignition

If you introduce more air and more fuel, you are going to need more spark to cash in on your modifications.

Rating scale is from 1 to 10. Low being 1 high being 10

Rating: 9
The bottom line with this system is it does what it is intended to do. Many people expect 15 hp from a stock engine with an ignition upgrade. That's just not the case. If you have a heavy foot and a modified car, then this may be the fix to your weak link. While Jacobs did not include the start retard feature in this unit, they made up for it in other ways. The increased spark under acceleration immediately comes to mind. The increased multiple sparks makes shudder under sudden acceleration almost disappear.

Fit: 8
I will start by saying this ignition system is huge! Total space required is 8 x 12. I did not lower the fit rating because of this though. My biggest complaint with fit is the wires. All the wires in the kit are nonadjustable. That is to say, you can not change the lengths. In my case I mounted all the components next to each other. This made it necessary for me to wire loom up a lot of excessive wire. It would have been nice to be able to trim wire down to the length needed. The only other issue is the included coil to cap wires. Both wires included are the standard HEI style wires. This makes it necessary to have custom wires made. Magnecor charges around 20 dollars for the 2 HEI to Volvo wires. Click here for installation instructions.

Finish: 10
The finish on all of the parts was extraordinary. All of the components were sealed and completely epoxy encased. The wires are all high grade with excellent insulation. Another great feature is that all of the wires are labeled to remove any unnecessary guess work. A nice finishing touch is all the connections are quality water resistant connections. No inferior wire splices are used.

Performance: 9
Performance of this unit will vary with the application. If your vehicle is stock, you will not feel any major difference. It is worth noting a mileage increase, but in my opinion mileage alone is not enough to justify the cost of this system. On the other hand, if you have a car running high boost prone to misfire, this may be just what you are looking for. Remarkably I was able to run 20 psi with a .046 gap with no misfires at all. Keep in mind as with all ignition systems, you're going to have accelerated plug, cap, and rotor wear.

Note: I will publish any issues as they arise.
