Need a lighter or higher output battery?

GNB/Optmia makes batteries for several companies.
All of their spiral cell batteries are similar with small differences in CCAs.
For my purposes I opted for a Champion Gold battery. At 32º F this batteries
is rated at 950 cranking amps. As a side note Champion batteries for cars
are now sold under another name. The main advantages of a spiral cell battery
are mounting options and durability. Due to their nature, spiral cell batteries
are also typically lighter.
Fit:
N/A
The fit depends on what you are trying
to do. These batteries are extremely versatile, if needed they can be mounted
on their sides or upside down. This allows for many custom configurations.
My specific requirement was for a higher output battery. For this reason I
used a larger group than recommended. With slight modifications, the battery
easily fit.
Finish: 10
Batteries are pretty unexciting. All
the seams were good, and the unused terminals were capped nicely. One nice
thing about these batteries is that both the positive and negative terminals
are clearly marked. This battery tips in at 32 pounds, the old AC Delco was
44 pounds, and the stock Volvo battery is around 40 pounds, which gives the
added bonus of at least 8 pounds weight reduction.
Performance: 10
The cold cranking ability is significantly
better . Whether or not this is simply because this battery is new will be
determined over time. I did however notice the old battery was having a harder
time turning over the engine. I do not plan to deep discharge this battery
but it will inevitable happen. I will keep this page updated with any problems
or comments that come up.
Note: I will publish any issues as they arise.
