iPhone Otter Box DIY Video Platform

Published on October 27, 2011 by Volvospeed

It amazes me sometimes that certain features or products are not already available. In this instance I am referring to a quality iPhone case that can double as a tripod or video platform. I hate to admit it, but sometime I am just too lazy to haul out equipment for the reviews here. Sure Volvospeed has Pro 3 CCD HD camers, but who wants to set those up under a car? Or only to use for a few seconds of video.  Or maybe you just want a quick in car video without having to hold the camera yourself or investing in something like a Go-Pro. Whatever the case may be, this modification is almost too simple to even show. Whats worse is that it was not a standard feature.

Canon Teleconverter On 28-300L USM Lens

Published on February 8, 2011 by Volvospeed

This article discusses the feasibility of using the Canon EF 1.4x II teleconverter on Canon lenses that are listed as being non-compatible with it. Canon states that the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters will not work on any prime lens under 135mm nor any zoom lens with a lower focal length less than 70mm such as the 28-300mm L. Why not? Physics dictates that it should work since everything is in the same plane. A lot of sites state that it is an issue with auto-focus or metering, but with manual focus and ETTL, this should be a non-issue, right? Not exactly, before you try to mount any of the teleconverters on a lens that is stated as being incompatible read on.

Understanding Photo Resolution Digital vs Film

Published on February 8, 2011 by Volvospeed

Resolution is a term you see used often on the internet and in the photography world. While the basics of resolution are easy to understand, few have a grasp on the true implications of resolution. Bit rate, density range, dynamic range, and a host of other factors are often incorrectly associated with resolution. Here we will deal strictly with resolution.

Sorting Film And Slides

Published on February 8, 2011 by Volvospeed

One of the biggest problems with slides and traditional film is keeping track of what you have. Negatives are even worse as you cannot tell what you have at a glance. Even if you have a filing system with thumbnails and a way to search, locating that perfect negative you shot 10 years ago could be a real issue. Luckily computers can make your life easier, even for the film photographer. All you need to start is a binder, film protector pages, and Picasa. Picasa is a free program you can download with the links at the top and bottom of this page.

Loading A Mamiya 6x8 Film Back

Published on February 8, 2011 by Volvospeed

With a Canon 1Ds opening a whole new realm in photography, film recorders suddenly seem exciting again. Or maybe you just stepped up to a medium format camera for the first time and need to learn how to load the 6x7 back for it. No matter what the case may be, all Mamiya 6x9 cameras load in roughly the same fashion. Start by locating and pulling the back cover latches highlighted below. Some cassette have just one but many of the Mamiyas have two as shown in this example.

Photo Resizing With Picasa

Published on February 8, 2011 by Volvospeed

Image resizing is an important aspect of the on-line world. At times we need high resolution images for documentation or printing requirements. However, the bulk of the time our 10 mega-pixel cameras just make life difficult. Despite what you believe no one wants a 3200x2800 30meg images of your newborn baby bloating their mailbox or message board. The program Picasa is a good entry level free photo editing tool. You can obtain Picasa in the "Google Pack", and install it by itself without the other programs. A link can be found at the top of this page.
