Bulb Failure Position Light

Published on February 2, 2011 by Mr. Winkey

With the holder removed I recommend replacing both bulbs at the same time that way your not doing the other one a week later. Just push down and rotate the bulb out. The bulb number is 5007. Now just put it all back together and your tail lamp should now show 2 bulbs glowing like above.

Glove Box Light Replacement

Published on February 2, 2011 by Volvospeed

While replacing the glovebox light, it is a good time to make sure the switch is properly adjusted and your light is not staying on when the door is closed. This will not only cause the bulb to burn out sooner, but will also drain your battery. The first step in replacing the light in the glove box is to open the glovebox and unfasten the two arms. This is best accomplished with a mechanics pick as shown above. Press in at the base of the arm and they should pop free. Once they are loose simply push them back and out of the way.

Manual Transmission Back-Up Light Switch

Published on February 2, 2011 by Bay13

Many states require the back-up lights to work in order to pass inspections. The 850/S/V/70 automatic transmission uses the PNP switch to make the electrical connections needed for the back-up lights to work, the Manual transmission uses a switch on top of the transmission to complete the circuit. If you have a manual transmission and the only way you can get the light to come on and stay on is to pull back on the shifter or jiggle it, then you more than likely need a new reverse light switch. The switch is located just underneath the inboard section of your air box. If you have an automatic transmission, look to the PNP switch replacement post.

V70 S70 C70 Center Console Light

Published on February 2, 2011 by Bay13

The light bulb part number is 1363149 and is about $3.50 at your local Volvo Dealer. Starting with the above picture, you first have to remove the cover that's already off by just prying it up. The red arrow is pointing to the adjustment for the parking brake. Top and bottom of the red arrow are 8mm bolts/screws that have to be removed. If you drop them down in the hole you should be able to find them when you get the console out of the way.

Volvo 850 Brake Light Replacement

Published on February 2, 2011 by Volvospeed

The first step in this procedure is to remove the two retainers. This can be accomplished with a flat head screw driver and pry as seen above. Next, with the removal of one more retainer you can pull back the interior trim to reveal the bulb holder as well as the emergency gas tank release. Squeeze the two tabs together to remove the holder from the car. Careful! Don't break the tabs. There is more than enough slack in the wires to place the holder down and out of the way.

Service Light Reset 1993+

Published on February 2, 2011 by Bay13

Additional methods for the resetting of the light are: With the S80 I have had to go through the procedure several times on some cars before the light would reset. If the service message light doesn't blink, it will not reset. Try doing it this way. Before you start the procedure notice the trip meter milage, (you have ,T1 and T2) doesn't matter which one is showing. You will notice that when you start the procedure, key to position one, push in the odometer reset button, after a few seconds the mileage that was in the trip mileage window jumps to "0", thats when you should move the key to position II, then wait for the service light to blink, it will do it about 5 times, don't let it get to 5, I usually release on the third blink

ABS/TRACS Light On

Published on January 31, 2011 by Bay13

On going questions and concerns about the ABS/TRACS lights being on can be found on almost every message board that discusses Volvos. Even though the light/lights are on you still have regular brakes. Several things can cause the lights to come on, the more common causes are; 1) bad electrical portion of the ignition switch, 2) bad ABS/TRACS module, 3) failure of the hydraulic block or the pump. On a very rare instance the wheel sensors failing can be a cause. There is one other condition that could exist on the 1996 850 model only. The lights will not be on however you might notice that at slow speeds or over small bumps the ABS will activate for no apparent reason. A weak crimping of the sensor wiring directly underneath the fuse box could cause this.

Published on January 31, 2011 by Lyonsroar

The service light will illuminate every 12,000 miles or 750 hours of driving. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with the car, it's just sort of a reminder.

WE CAN TURN IT OFF:
1. Hold the black trip button in the gauge cluster down.
2. Turn car to second key position: (DO NOT START CAR)
3. Wait until the service light blinks.
4. Release the black trip button.

There are many reasons the need to remove the headlight lens may come up. Most common would be a cracked lens or upgrading to new lenses. Before you begin make sure you have a clean work area, heat gun, flat-head screwdriver, razor blade, and solvent. A heat gun is a must for this project. Without it you risk not only damage to the headlight but also hours of your life gone forever.
