Replacing A Broken Antenna Mast

Published on February 3, 2011 by Bay13

Take the new antenna mast and insert the gearing down into the hole until it bottoms out. This is tricky, before inserting the gearing try to straighten the end so it will be grabbed by the motor gears. You might try turning the white gearing so it faces the rear of the car, this might help it to drop down that last hard to get 1 " , then turn the gears back to the front. Turn the radio off, if you are lined up the gears will be pulled into the housing. You might feel the motor turning and rubbing on the white gearing but not feel it being pulled down, try backing off a little then pushing down, keep fiddling with it and it will grab. Once the gearing begins to retract, guide the mast into the housing. After the motor stops retracting, put the 16mm nut back on and tighten, if the mast wasn't pulled all the way down, push it down now. Cycle the radio on and off a few times and you should be good to go.

Radio Connection Pin Out

Published on February 3, 2011 by Bay13

This layout is taken from a 1995 schematic, I will check newer schematics to see if the lay out and wire colors have changed. 16/1 is the circuit designation for the two connectors. The two connectors are further broken down to "A" for the 14 pin (larger) connector and "B" for the 10 pin (smaller) connector. Lead colors are shown by letters: SB = Black, GR = Gray, W = White, R = Red, BN = Brown, Y = Yellow, P = Pink, BL = Blue, GN = Green, OR = Orange, VO = Violet. To further break down the 14 pin "A" connector: 1A = Dash Left Speaker +, 2A = Dash Left Speaker -, 3A = Antenna +, 4A = Battery + 12V, 5A = Not used, 6A = Ground, 7A = Dash Right Speaker +, 8A = Dash Right Speaker -, 9A = Not used, 10A = Rheostat +, 11A = Rheostat Ground, 12A Battery + 12V , 13A = ACC +, 14A = Ground. Breaking down the 10 pin "B" connector: 1B = Left Rear Speaker -, 2B = Left Rear Speaker +, 3B = Left Front Door Speaker -, 4B = Left Front Door Speaker +, 5B = Right Rear Speaker -, 6B = Right Rear Speaker +, 7B & 8B = Not used, 9B = Right Front Door Speaker -, 10B = Right Front Door Speaker + . The rear speaker wires supply the rear hat shelf and door speakers if installed, wire coloring is the same for the hat shelf and the rear door speakers.

SC816 Will Not Accept CDs Radio Fix

Published on February 3, 2011 by Bay13

To reset the micro switch on the radio, that when stuck will cause the radio to not accept CDs do the following; If you have the radio code and are familiar with using it, take the radio out of the vehicle, if not you can do this with the radio in the car and connected. Put the shifter in neutral and place a blanket or something over the shifter, pull the radio out and rest the radio on top of the shifter. Looking at the front of the radio, there are two black plastic rails on both sides of the radio, you will be removing the rail on the right (looking at the radio).
