If you drive an 850 you probably have seen trim in the condition above. Age and neglect can cause the 850s roof trim to crack and peel. The most common fix is to replace the trim, but that is expensive. Most dealers charge over 400 dollars for the new pieces. With this guide you can fix the trim with it either on or off of the car.

The 850 and the V70 (1998-2000) have hydraulic shocks that help to open and hold the tail gate up and in place once opened. With time the tailgate struts will fail internally and you will notice that the tail gate will not stay up. More than likely only one of the struts has failed however if one has failed the other one is more than likely not far behind. This post will help you remove the trim thats in the way so you can get at the struts and replace them.

This post should help for adjusting the sunroof and removing the sunroof glass to get to the shade for repair. I use ¼ drive 25 torx bit to remove the screws that hold the glass in place. If you are repairing the shade cloth, a good spray on contact glue, the kind you spray on both sides and let dry then put the two together will be needed. A good 3M brand or equivalent will work.

To start with the removal of the door panel I use a plastic tool to pop the top of the trim around the handle loose. Find something similar and note the way I'm twisting the tool to pop the trim loose. The bottom will still be attached, don't worry about that when you finally pull on the bottom of the door panel it will break the trim piece free without breaking it, as long as you have got the top to break free.

To start the removal of the door panel, I make sure the window is raised and with a small screwdriver I close the door latch so the interior lights will go off. The speaker grill will come off by just prying gently. Next take off the black plastic handle by just grabbing it pulling up. The trim panel in the recess has three clips holding it in place, the newer 850s have clips that will snap off rather easy but the older ones have a white holder that is a little more difficult. Just pry the panel off and you can get the white clips out to be reused after the door panel is off.

Below is a picture of the items needed to repair the tailgate panel. The actual tailgate repair kit has the metal pieces and the screws needed to secure them to the standoffs on the panel; the picture includes the four clips for the top and the bottom. It is recommended that you replace the clips at the time of repair, as some may be missing or break when removing the panel for repair. Total cost for everything should be about $40. The repair Kit part number is 9451866, the four clips across the bottom are 9132876, and the top four clips are 9145885.

Tools required : 25 Torx screw driver or something similar, I use a 25 torx bit in my 12V drill, small flat tip screw driver for prying. Light bulbs if replacing burned out ones. A couple of rags to keep from scratching the instrument cluster when removing it from the dash. If you have had squeaks in the dash you might want to have some felt tape handy to tape up possible sources prior to reassembling. To start, drop the steering wheel down and back as far as it will go. Most of this can be done from the drivers seat. Start with the left side of the dash. Take off the small round plastic cover that hides a 25 torx screw, and remove the screw.
