OK, so this is all hearsay from my 18 yr old. But after I got angry at him, I laughed damn hard. I'll leave it up to you all to call BS, and I don't know any better so here's the story.

After I did a full ignition part service, cuz I had mad misfires, my car was running great. So junior wants to borrow my 855, his 740 needs the same treatment. 2 weeks ago.

So at dinner last night we are talking about car stuff, and the 20yr old starts cracking up, obviously he knows something I don't. 18yr old goes into hysterical denial of wrong doing, tears streaming down his face, trying not to laugh. I finally assure them no retribution for actions, and he tells me he beat another car in a 1/4 mile drag. The funny part? The kid was so pissed he got beat he wants to sell his car! Rumor has it he dumped $4000 into the engine on a bunch of aluminum heads and pipes and what not, a 1987 Trans-Am with a 350 in it. So the race goes like this: They line up, at a place off the main roads that the kids know about, and off they go. The T/A spins it's tires at launch, my kid eases into the throttle, and at the 1/8th pole walks on the guy, by 6 lengths. Pissed off, T/A guy wants another run, junior says OK. Line it back up, they launch, T/A guy keeps his traction, at the 1/8th pole junior says he is looking at the T/A's license plate. BY the finish he has 3 lengths on the Pontiac. Dude is so pissed, he keeps going straight to the other exit from the race area, not turning around to pick up his passenger he brought or nothing, just bolts for home. My kid has no idea what the AFR, speedo, tach, or boost gauges were reading, he says he was just watching the road, fighting torque steer, and keeping an eye on the T/A.

Can this be ? It is kinda funny that the kid wants to dump his car now!

a couple of weekends ago... my friends nissan 240 with a Chevy LSx swap (5.3L) camaro 6 speed trans and 100 shot...its mainly his drift car but threw some drag radials on it and brought it to the strip to have some fun.

C6 Z06, R35 Gt-R And A Modded E39 M5

Last night I met some of my old friends again who convene every friday evening at a convenient location if the weather's good. The E46 M3 which the volvo walked over in the old videos has now had a supercharger fitted and was eager for a rematch but unfortunately he broke a coil spring (wtf) and couldn't bring his car. He did bring his friend with a modded (460 crank) E39 M5 with straight pipes (sounded GLORIOUS..twice better than the Z06)
There were 2 blokes we hadn't seen before but they had an R35 and Z06 so were very welcome . Pretty nice guys, and they appreciated the Volvo. Another stock M5 and some lesser BMW's were there and a stock R33 GTR.

I did a lot of pulls against the R35 but the guy driving didn't seem very familiar with how a race is usually started and almost every pull he jumped away without honking. When we did eventually both get an acceptable start he pulled on me which could be expected But not as much as I'd feared. 60 to 120mph he pulled 1.5 car lengths on me, 1 lenght of which he gained when I had to shift. That thing just pulls like it never shifts, its not fair Insane gearbox. 120 to 150 he added another car and a half just on power while i was in 5th. Nothing to be embarrassed about I guess.

The Z06 was quicker than the R35, I didn't race him directly but I followed them and the Z06 probably had a good car length on the GTR by 140mph.

The modded E39 M5 was pretty quick when getting on the throttle but in 3rd and 4th the T-5R got about 2 car lengths in. If I had gone on far enough in 5th he'd have come back probably, either way my gears are now too short for very high speed. He has a friend with an M6 and that beat him by less than the T-5R in these (cold) conditions.

One problem I had was my intercooler staying warm for too long after I'd heatsoaked it in the parking lot. I was looking at 11.2 AFR's rather than 12 which I saw on the highway afterwards. That cost me a bit of time as I later found out doing a 60-135mph pull on the highway and comparing GPS speed data afterwards with racechrono.

Some cell phone footage was made by a passenger in my car but I don't have it yet.

Do have a vid of the car on the hwy afterwards, with GPS data in MPH just for you guys..its very slightly out of sync though.

Next time I'll take my cam along and refuse a passenger to improve results lol

Went To Englishtown Raceway

I went to the track Friday, trying to best my 13.48 run on street tires. I managed to cut a 2.21 60' (my best 60' being a 2.13 when the car was stock)

My 1st run i ran a 13.58 @ 106mph with a 2.4 60'

My 2nd run i ran a 14.37 @ 103mph with a 2.3 60' (Blew my Cold side pipe off just past the 1000 ft mark)

My 3rd run i ran a 13.27 @ 106mph with a 2.2 60'

I had an hour between my 2nd and 3rd runs, and the temperature dropped tremendously which helped out. I'm trying to source an R manifold from Erie, which they never seem to have any in stock. I want to get my steelies widened for slicks, and also want to install my N2MB WOT box, I would really like to break into the 12's with the 16t, and then i'm done with this setup. I'm eventually looking at either jans setup from ATP Turbo, with their manifold w/ external gate and STGE 3 .50 trim or just go with a 19t or K24 for drivability.

Latest Trip To The Strip

Went to the drag strip for the second time last night after the motor rebuild, and what a night. Here's the results. The car was 2mph faster than the first time I took it. Changed my shifting points from 6k RPM to 5500RPM to keep it more in its powerband, plus the evening was cooler than the first time. My 60' times continue to kill me and prevent me from being a 13 second car!!

1/4 ET = 14.0858
1/4 MPH = 105.89

Reaction = .0431
60' ft = 2.3039

I asked this awhile ago, and tried a few ways. Seems like half throttle, till about 3K and then flooring it on green works the best...well right after the last yellow actually.
Any other things. I obviously remove the spare tire.

Spirited 0-80 mph ish from a dig versus my friend in his 07 Infiniti M45. He just got the car was talking to me about how fast it is and then wanted to "show me". I brake boosted a bit off the start, even until about 40 then started to gain, probably half a car length by 80. Did this on a closed road.

He was really surprised to say the least, he doesn't know much about car's, but didn't think a 14 year old Volvo is faster. Not much of a story, but it was funny to see the look on his face when we stopped.

He had to pay for drinks afterward.

I had an interesting bar room discussion today.

The question up for debate was:

"Including the cost of the car and all necessary mods, which P2 is cheaper to get into the 12s?

A -S60R FWD

B -S60R AWD

C -S80T6 "

My position is/was:

A - Arguably, the most expensive car of the three, it has the most mods available for it. However, issues with the #3 cylinder come into play at the power level necessary to get into the 12s? Plus, everybody seems to have trouble launching it

B- Same as A, extra weight and power drainage from the AWD offsets the benefits of any additional traction, plus the collar gear/spline gear can't handle the necessary power

C - cheapest platform to start from, especially if you get one with a bad trans (since your going to spend $$ upgrading the trans anyway), close in weight to B, questionable turbo upgrade and tune availability to generate the necessary power

What's your opinion?
