I am looking to purchase another Volvo and am stuck between a 99/00 V70 or an 01 XC70. I don't really need the AWD just the wagon portion on the car. A dealer told me that the AWD systems aren't up to par with Volvo reliability. Both of the V70's are non turbo's which I don't mind.

I understand that all XC70's are turbo models. I'm looking to go to the 300,000 mile club with this car smile.gif I hear that the V70 NA is the way to go. What do you guys think? Have you seen any 01 and up XC70 with high miles without major problems? I know this may be a difficult question due to an only 7 yr old model.

Later awd was ok. My aunts 01 xc has 250k and still running strong. I think the trans is the weak point on the xc 01-02. She has an 01 and did have to put a trans in it. Na's are good cars. I have seen a 99 with 350k...still running fine.

I did a little research on the 01 XC70 and also saw tranny's are the weak point. But that is reasuring your aunt's has 250K. I may just go with the V70 to be honest. If I can't find a good one this weekend I'll go look at the XC70...
Thanks

Transmission is a weakpoint for both the 2001 V & XC... mine was changed after 36K Kms under warranty.

I'm on my 2nd tranny in 8 months. Car's on 180k, dealer did the work the first change on the cheap, so not sure what was actually done. Apart from the tranny, the car feels like it'll go another 180k with no major problems.

My 2001 XC70 is at approx. 80,000 miles now.

I encountered the Electronic Throttle Module failure at about 38,000 miles, before the updates were released.
This was the only time the vehicle ever stranded me.

I had to have the transmission replaced and was told by a tech I spoke with about it that he'd seen early transmission failure on more than a handful of early XC70s.
I was never actually stranded while the transmission was failing, but it would get EXTREMELY choppy and clunky as it got nearer to failure.

Other than that, I haven't had any significant problems with this car at 80,000 miles.
