2001 Volvo S60 - Service Key Not Working

Is there any easy way with the back seats locked to get into the trunk?
Alternatively, is there any easy way to pull a fuse or such to disable the start inhibitor so he can start the engine at least?
PM me if you don't want to post "here's how to disable the inhibitor" on a public forum, which would be nice of you since I don't think Chuck wants it posted on his site and to start leading a Volvo theft ring.
TYIA for any help.

You could try to pull down the seatbacks. Maybe they aren't locked in tight and will come forward. Also, you can try pulling the armrest backer down. It might be loose enough to come forward. You would then have a small opening to the trunk and could try to fish the keys with a stick, broom, wire, parts retriever, or some such. Or maybe you can get ahold of the emergency trunk release and pull it. Or maybe you can pull one of the seatback releases, fold down the seat, then crawl in to get the keys. Or use a saw to cut a hole in the armrest backer, then get a replacement from an auto recycler.
Only other alternative I can think of is to have the car towed to a Volvo dealership and have them make you a new key. That would be expensive.
Let us know how you work it out.

Fold down the backseat armrest. The latch for the armrest backer is at the top center of the backer. Pull the edge of the plastic down at the top center of the backer. Insert a hard metal object (I used a key, but a screwdriver would work) and push back on the latch about 1/2" until it releases. Fold the backer down and you now have access to the trunk with no damage done. This will leave an 8" X 8" opening to fish for the keys through. On my car the latches for the seatbacks are just outside the armrest opening at the top of the seats. I can reach them through the armrest opening, but I couldn't disengage them by pulling on the cables. However, I didn't pull very hard because I didn't want to break anything.
I also discovered that there is no emergency release in my trunk!

PS - Yes, the emergency release pulls for the trunk were added in later models.
I think the first car they were in was the 2004.5 S40s, but it might have also been in other 2004 or 2003 models.

On the S60 (at least the 2001) you need to pull a latch in the trunk to unlock the seats before they can be folded down.

"Trunk lock" function
Pressing this switch locks the trunk, even if the
doors are unlocked. The trunk will remain locked even if the doors are locked/unlocked using the master key or the remote control.
To use this function:
· Turn the master key to position II.
· Press the "trunk lock" button. An LED in the button will light up and a message will be displayed in the text window to indicate that this function is activated.
· The function can be turned off (deactivated) by turning the ignition key to position II and pressing the "trunk lock" button again (the LED in the button will go out).
* The position of this button may vary, depending on the specifications of your car.
