The swap is well underway now...got a bunch of work done today...got the old auto shifter out finally, took the front seat out to give myself some working room

The Shifter Cables in... Didn''t put the new shifter housing in yet...was having a hell of a time making the cables fit. Is there a trick to that? I know they gotta slide through the holes and get clipped in but there''s like no slack on those suckers.. Do i need to pull the cables through the firewall pass thorough more?

Also needed to get some stuff to grease up the shifter ball joints. Theres a ton of dirt and stuff on the new shifter, so i wanna clean that up before putting it together.

Got the old brake pedal and bracket out....that thing was a major pain in the ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD. Had to disconnect the steering column and pull it almost all the way out to get the stupid bracket off.

New Pedals ready to go in...need to order a new first...

Took me FOREVER to figure out how to get that firewall grommet pushed in. Originally i had the cables going on the left side, in front of the steering rack... Finally figured out they were supposed to go in behind it instead.

Replaced the rubber bushings on the shifter ends w/ brass bushings too.

Not the same - the flywheel has a lot more mass - I would recommend you buy new bolts intended for a manual flywheel.

Looks good, started mine this weekend too. Its been educational to say the least.

Did you have any trouble getting the shift cables mounted, mine don't want to line up and sit flush with the firewall so I can bolt them in.

YES!!! I fought with this for close to 90 minutes before i figured it out. Feed them through from the inside of the car, and make sure they go behind the power steering rack. I didn't have anyone helping me so they went on the wrong side of the steering input shaft at first and i could not get that grommet/firewall bracket to line up until i dropped the steering rack and repositioned the wires... the bracket popped right in after that.

Look at the pic of the engine bay...this shows how they should be positioned (inbetween the firewall and steering rack)

Ebay....searched for MR2 Bushings... (as in Toyota MR2). I wasn't sure if they were the right ones since they were made for the toyota but they fit perfectly. There were several auctions that had them. Mine were 10 bucks for the set of 2.

Thanks, I'm on hiatus until next weekend but that was giving me fits!, I might follow your lead removing the front seat as getting the brake pedal and bolt out was trying enough lol

This may be a dumb question...but does the manual trans also connect to the transmission fluid cooler? I haven't looked at my manual trans closely yet and when i was asking a co-worker if i should flush my trans cooler before putting the manual in, he said that most manual's don't need a cooler. I wanted to flush it to make sure no metal shavings gets in the new trans...if indeed it is connected to the cooler...

What kind of Fluid do i use for this...is it regular ATF fluid, or a different 'gear oil'?

Volvo manual gearbox fluid works great. No tranny cooler on the manuals.
