How many of you have installed HID kits in your projector headlights?

I recently sold my projector headlights, but I was using 6k HIDs with them.
I went over the installation procedure in this thread: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...=100446&hl=

Thanks for the votes. The reason I am asking is because we are looking at including HID with our next batch of projector headlights. They will also have a new projector which is designed for HID lights biggrin.gif

How about a new design on the current projectors? I already have HID's

Also I tough a projector is a projector? didnt know they had different types for halogen and hid. I thought reflector = halogen, projector = hid. Is int it simply how it throws the light?

Yup. They are just different casings. HID and Halogen are different types of bulbs. So Frank what we really need you to make is a new projector housing.... for the S60 wink.gif

Thats what I thought. I know that official HID are like d1s d14 or w/e they call it. All our HID's are are hid bulbs in halogen bases. But those are cheaper than official HID's.

so +1 to the new design!

There is a difference between projector types, just like some reflectors are designed for halogen and Xenon. Many OEM cars use D2R bulbs with reflectors, it works fine but is not as efficient as Xenon projectors. Halogen projectors are designed to make the most of the dimmer light from a halogen bulb, so when you put an HID bulb in, sometimes there is unexpected glare (not to mention the cut off will be wrong). The aftermarket projectors headlights for our cars are actually pretty good at taking Xenon bulbs, even though they are made for halogen. This is not that common to see, only a few cars do well with HIDs in halogen projectors (Audi A4, Acura MDX, a few others..)

OEM HID bulbs are:

D1S -- for projectors, integrated ignitor
D2S -- for projectors, just a bulb

D1R -- for reflectors, integrated ignitor
D2R -- for reflectors, just a bulb

D4S -- mercury free, for projectors
D4R -- mercury free, for reflectors

The lights will look the same as what we currently are selling, the only difference will be the type of projector.

I am sure that we could get them made but not sure if there is enough demand yet?

are you talking X70 or 850?

i'm guessing there wont be any re-makes of the X70 projectors?
I've been wanting something that lookes more OEM and retains some of the "square" theme volvo originally gave these cars but with the performance of projectors. I've come up with quite a few designs so far, but with no way to get them built they remain as just sketches
