How much weight can be removed from my car due to unnecessary things such as radio,
a/c, rear seats, carpet, head liner, speakers, door panels, etc,
and how much would that benefit the all around performance

dunno how much weight you can drop (some people on here know exactly) but if you wanna know approx how much of a difference it will make, then get that much weight worth of people, get them to sit in your car, drive the stuff outta it, then kick em out and drive some more, compare wink.gif

this topic has been discussed before, but i dont think anyone really came to exact conclusion. it was agreed upon though that the heated motorized front seats we got goin on are extremely effing heavy.

motorized seats suck, I want a manual one.

the rear seats (at least the bottom portion in sedans) is surprisingly light. not even worth taking out IMO unless the seat backs happen to be really heavy.

When I go to the strip I take out my passenger seat, my back seats, my subwoofer, and my spare tire. All this takes me about 45min to an hr.

I think Volflo removed everything inside incl. the dashboard and his Volvo 855 T-5R had 1250kg. But because of this the car isnīt driveable for everydays use: itīs loud very loud inside and the heat of the exhaust pipe comes inside the car and heats it up extremely.

If you just want to go to a racetrack like Volflo, than itīs ok, but for everydays use itīs nothing adorable.

When I only had a drivers seat for a few weeks, the car felt faster off the line. When I reinstalled my interior, it was noticably slower.

Weight reduction is beneficial in all aspects. Acceleration, top speed, braking, cornering, etc. I have built many track cars and you can usually shed 300-500 lb(depending on car) by deleting heating and a/c, all interior including carpet, headliner, door panels, seats, seatbelts, etc. After you take out the interior, take out all the sound deadening tar, all interior lights and wires, radio, speakers and assoc wires. So much more to list but you get the drift. Put in 1 or 2 racing seats with harnesses and you'll be all set. It will not really be a practical dd anymore but it will be considerably faster, louder and hotter. I would love to build a wagon with a cage and all. I might eventually do that to mine. I believe there was someone in the forum building one. I think he was in NJ somewhere. I think I saw it in the projects page but all of a sudden it disappeared. Did that ever get built? I'm curious to find out what happened to that car.

Cheers,
Ricky

when you finally reinstalled your interior did you remember to tighten the nut behind the steering wheel

Actually, weight has absolutely nada to do with your top speed. Throw some fat chicks in your car and you will reach the exact same top speed it will just take you a tad longer to get there. Otherwise trains would never reach more than 2mph.

The seat backs are fairly heavy. Not front seat heavy, but quite heavy compared to the nearly weightless base.

Florian's 855R is at exactly 1300 kg's with a cage. But it is VERY stripped. Lots of wiring gone, carbon dash, sunroof closed with carbon, the doors are completely gutted as well and closed with CF. So at least the 855's aren't easy to get very light. Sedans are quite a bit less.
854 T-5R...will be back soon.

what are your goals? full out gutted race car?

if so, strip the entire car. down to metal.

instead of thinking what you can take out, think about only what you need to put back in.

627 pounds without replacing with custom parts. More if you want to start making custom parts.
