I needed to remove the console to replace my front 12V accessory supply - so I decided it was as good a time as any to cut the shifter down - of course this is not a true short shift, since I didn't lengthen the lower lever, but whatever.

Once this is released, access can be had to the two clips that retain the knob...

These are the parts out of the car - I forgot to take disassembly pics. You can look on SS under lloydobler (sp?) he did this on his C70

the boot really needs to be shortened, as it wants to ride up around the shifter a bit..

No real difference in feel, it just gives a little knuckle room between shifter & console that was lacking before.

Hussein- You havent called me in a while, whats up?wink.gif For the boot, release it and the frame from the center console. Then pull the boot loose from the frame and pull it down and snap it back into the center console. Thats what I did. See below.

PS- And it truly IS a short throw shifter by shortening it. Take a yard stick and a ruler. Put them on the same axis. Move the bottom of each 2 inches and measure the throw at the top. The longer the stick at the top of the axis. The longer the stick is from the axis, the longer the throw is going to be.

Question about the diameter of the rod - could you tap it and screw on a universal shifter. I've heard that the shaft is very close to the diameter of the universal ones.

Shifter throw is determined by the length of travel under the pivot. So fail.

by that definition, i can move my hand lower on my stock shifter and it'd become a 'short shifter' biggrin.gif

Quick. Someone write an article on the short shifter grip technique. We can coin the term chode shifter.

Thanks for the tip - I'll try moving the boot down tomorrow.

Haven't called since I've been in wait mode - waiting for FPR, waiting to resolve IEBC issues - that's fixed now, and FPR is due in tomorrow!

Quote from B&M rep
"Shift throw refers directly to actual physical travel of the shifter stick - thus affecting the time it takes to shift from one gear to another"
