Personally, I won't settle for less than a genuine Volvo bidet from Waltrip in an official blue box with the Volvo logo on it. I always order the one with the latte in it.

So, yeah, I hear about this bracket on the right side- I suppose I didn't have one because I didn't have an issue with it...my leak is center to left on the manifold. I priced a genuine gasket at the dealer (by phone) and picking one up tomorrow or thursday- I would buy one from Jamie or someone but I'm in TN and still have to pay our crazy 9.25% sales tax and I don't want to wait around- from our dealer the gasket is $12.95- this will be peace of mind anyway- don't hesitate to use genuine parts where it would make a difference. In regards to the question about torquing it to 15ft lbs....I don't have a torque wrench that goes that low- mine starts at about 25 lbs...but yeah, I did snug them up and torqued less than the 25 lbs...pretty sure I got about 20 on them- don't think too much torque would cause a leak or would it?

I don't know how they expect you to get an accurate torque on all of those bolts. It might be just me, but I couldn't even get a socket on the lower bolts even with a swivel socket. I just ended up snugging them down pretty good, I just made sure not to go to tight. No leaks on mine, maybe I am just lucky.

I agree...you can't get a socket on those lower ones...I used a box end on them...snugged them up myself and went for what felt close to 15lbs.

Might be a difference in models I was able to get a socket on all of them.
Had to use a swivel on the lower ones but it wasn't too difficult.

Good luck with the new gasket!

FCP manifold gasket worked okay for me – I ran into a problem with the little bracket on the bottom right manifold bolt which gave me a similar but much worse rough idle than the condition you describe. The bracket ended up between the manifold and the block, an easy oversight for a n00b like me. The manifold bolt threads through it and it needs to be held away from the block while reinstalling the manifold.

Also just wondering, did you torque the manifold bolts when you reinstalled them to 14 foot lbs?

Several of us have made the mistake with the bracket on the right side of the manifold. However, it only applies to turbo cars. The bracket is not present on NA cars because the PCV plumbing is different. That evil bracket holds the hoses that go to the PCT which is down by the turbo.

Thanks...relieved the bracket is only on the turbo models..
Got the OEM gasket today from the dealer- over $13 after tax.
I'll do this repair again when I get some free time.

Got to go to Birmingham to see my mom this weekend- she's in a convalescent home and not doing to well- want to wish her well on mother's day. Will be back next week and can work on things with you next weekend if you're interested. Still have my cell number? If not, PM me.

Got back from visiting my mother this weekend for Mother's Day in Birmingham about 5 and about 6, I decided to go ahead and tackle the intake manifold gasket...figured I had enough time to take the manifold off, fuel line, injectors, the throttle body and large copper EGR pipe. It really wasn't that bad second time around as I had done this recently and things were fresh in my mind. When I got the intake manifold off, this is what I found- the culprit of my woes:

As you can tell, when I put the manifold on and slid it down onto the lower bolts, the cheap FCPG gasket slid with it and kinked...actually making it so that the gasket wasn't sealing on the upper corner of that intake hole. When I changed this gasket out with the green, thicker gasket from the dealership, everything sealed up fine and the car idles without a hiccup now...I took it for a test drive and even the check engine light went out!
Thumbs up for the OEM gasket- beats the third party part hands down- if I had know this to begin with I would have saved myself a lot of grief.

Oh, I agree 100%... bought all OEM timing belt parts for this car...knew I had to tackle the PCV and didn't think twice about the gasket- didn't even ask. I had no idea that these were so bad.

Thats good you finally got this problem solved.

I do remember on my old 850, I did use the FCP aftermarket gasket, although I had no problems it really didn't compare in quality and construction to the OEM one that I had removed for that PCV job.
