how do you get 850 door handles off
my buddy painted them black, poorly and while i was not home, and it actually looked pretty good for a month or so
but now the paint is waring away

i want to take the door handles off so i can do a thorough job
and i might repaint my doors, but for now its just the door handles

thanks

Loosen the 2 screws on the door, I also find it easy to remove the 2 screws for the latch aswell, push in on the latch and the handle will pop right out of the front portion, then you will pull it out rotating the handle slightly to allow the back portion to come out. Very simple to remove and reinstall.

Taking them out is easy. Putting the rear ones in is very easy, the front ones with door locks is harder. You need to pull out the tumbler assembly first. The way to do this is to put the key in, stick a flathead screwdriver into a little tiny slot on the side so it spreads apart this "spring", turn the key 45 degrees to the left (or right, I forget) and then pull the tumbler assembly straight out. You put the handle into the door, THEN put the tumbler back in. I wasted an hour trying to figure this out.. ugh.

A few of us wasted an hour or so @ Carlisle doing this to both my front handles.

It did seem like a big PITA.

I never take the tumblers out. This is why you remove the 2 screws for the latch and push in on it a bit. I've removed many of them and have put a few in, Aarons included, all done without removing the tumbler.

OK. so what is the Best method?

I ask this because ever since I got my car back from the body shop, my driver door lock wont work right. It's never quite "sync'd up" to the rest of the locks. Is that because they didn't take the precaution of either removing the tumbler or the 2 screws?

I watched Dave and Jack work on mine for a while....easist way was to go at it strapped with patience, remove the 2 door handle torx and loosen/back out a little the latch torx and go to town. Don't fight yourself, if you get stuck remove your door panel and there will be a little more room to see things. I'm betting your handle just needs properly seated in there.

Doing a v70 handle swap onto my 855. Are the front and rear assemblies identical? Assuming the tumbler is involved i will assume no. I have 4 handles, none have keyholes... how can i tell if they are all rears or perhaps a keyhole less FR.......... ?
