Not sure there's a way to remove the limiter without chipping it.

Also I'm sure you'll be perfectly content with going 150ish versus 160, I believe the limiter stops the car at 150 IIRC.

For sure man, get it chipped and you'll realize the acceleration is where the real fun is, not the top speed. I mean, who likes nascar anyway? but f1....

Didn't someone say that the S80 had an electric e-brake, that if you jerked it up at any speed over 100kmh it over rode all the closed loop systems?

No, programmed in the ECU.

Appears to be the question in this thread..

Don't know the exact reasoning behind it but in Europe Volvo's come with lower set limiters, 210 km/h = 130 mph, with certain type of tires fitted from factory. If the speed rating is below the normally set 250 km/h = 155 mph the limiter will be set lower. Some models come with 130 mph limiters regardless, XC90 is limited below 120 mph I believe.

As far as US is concerned I thought the S60R/V70R were the only 155 mph limited cars and all others were limited to 130 mph. ME7 and up cars that is.

Yea, 150 is good enough. Don't want to chip it, I've heard many bad things about those.

Hmm, I've heard that it wears down the engine a lot faster and decreases gas mileage. And my mpg is already really low. Are there any you'd recommend though?

The heaviness of you foot and preventative maintanance has alot more to do with engine life and gas mileage than a tuned ECU.

I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

if you want to go fast just suck it up learn German and move to the countryside in Bavaria or something. i can confidently do 120+ in my car but it doesn't matter when there are about 100 cars doing 65 mph within one mile of me on a 2 or 3 lane highway and just as many potholes hiding in my path.

Edit: Oh, your 17, never mind. If you want to say you can do 160+ get a Porsche 911 or something.

how you drive it will make the biggest difference , i had a police interceptor with a whole bunch of mustang gt performance parts (its a mustang 4.6L tuned a bit differently) , i could get 27mpg just cruising on the highway , putting the hammer down in town on a regular basis put my average city at 11mpg tho hahaha , as for recommendations check out all the tuning posts and make a educated decision , tuning starts at $300 (for speedtuning ect.) ... good luck

Hey will my 850 do that too? I sometimes feel the need for speed.

Ya it does, but in the 850 you need to be going over 60mph.

The speed limiter and I heard something about a possible boost gain too kinda like what the R models do. Will this be like V-Tak kicking in?

check his profile , he's 17 years old , its not his fault , he doesn't know any better ... because of the replies on this post its likely that he will never ask another question , so he's going to end up playing with something he doesnt have any clue how to work on , and THEN he is going to get himself killed ... instead why dont we promote him actually learning , and share with him how to get the most fun ... top speed is lame ... ACCELERATION is whats fun

don't make that generalization.... Being 17 is no excuse for being THAT dumb

You do know what they do to people that double the speed limit in IL?

You do realize that cops read these boards all the time?

You do know that you will die if a deer is in the middle of the I80 in the middle of the night?

You do realize how stupid it is to drive that fast?

Ive owned a bike that said 200mph on the speedo, did I drive that fast?

You can always go to the salt flats where they take safety in mind.

I could just see a nice family driving along in their minivan, all the kids asleep, dad trying to drive through the night to get home, when you slam into the back of them because you realized that its harder to change lanes at 140+mph than you think.

so does it permanently overcomes those factory settings or is it temporary ? anyone know for sure if it works on my car ? this is the first i heard of it on a volvo , i've broken the ecu's top speed limiter on a couple cars just by flooring it until final gear well into redline

very very true , everything comes into play at those speeds , its infinitly more difficult then <100mph , fastest ive ever been in a car was about 165mph , the road surface changed (from pavement to concrete) and the car swayed rediculously (and thats with highspeed performance tuned suspension , including antisway bars and whatnot) , dont get me wrong , going really fast is a thrill , but i get TONS more pleasure out of acceleration (ie 0-60) that pushes you into your seat --- ive been in a couple cars that topped out at 120mph (do to gearing ), but they got there (accelerated) so fast you couldnt reach out and touch the dash (do to the G force) ... BEAT THAT !
