I recently moved to Portland from Canada and am upset to find that I can not get Total Lubricants' automotive products in the US. I ran Total Quartz 9000 Energy 0W30 in my car in Canada and want something that provides the same or better performance AND longevity. I might want a slightly heavier oil due to the warmer weather though. Here is the data sheet for this oil: http://www.lubadmin....lang_1/5806.pdf

I was hoping Amsoil or Motul might have a product that is as good or better? I dont care about price as long as I can get 6 liters for $100 or less, although if you know a particularly good/cheap source I would love to know about it.

I think he is looking for a full synthetic. I think you'd be ok with any of the full synthetics from most major brands. You would probably be better off going 5-10W, as you said.

I picked a pretty circuitous route and arguably cheated slightly, but I'm going to get there

Total is low end elf now isnt it? I cannot comment on Total. Redline is not bad but I prefer Motul or Elf to it. Go 10w40 300V motul. If you order 6L and 1L brake fluid total comes to 106 shipped.

They recently dropped the Elf name and now call even the high end oils Total. The quartz 9000 that I use is their top of the line and was an "Elf" oil before this name change.

will the 300V be okay for street driving and long service intervals or is it strictly a race oil which needs to be replaced often? and where can i get it for that price?

Just received a 5 gallon pale of elf less than 3 months ago. I think for their moto oil they are still selling under the blue elf pales/drums. Probably until they run out at least. Motorspot has Motul and offers a VS discount and free shipping over 100, hence the brake fluid. Their oil unlike RP and ELF is stabilized so it is street car suitable. I know a couple GTP and club race teams that often go 2-3 months without changing it out and its fine, according to assays. Redline is stabilized also I just never cared for the stuff as much though they do offer a 10w40 also.

yeah, the moto products still go by the elf name. and you still get the auto products in the blue and white elf drums alot of the time.

Why would you go with 10W-40 instead of 5W-40? their viscosities at 100°C are 14 and 13.7 mm²/s respectively, but at 40°C they are 85 and 72.5? The 5W-40 seems like it would pay off for a daily driven vehicle that experiences cold starts.

I'll check out motorspot, need good brake fluid anyways. thanks for the advice

I was first thinking the Dominator 10W-30 Racing Oil, but after looking at the technical properties it seems like Amsoil's "European" 5W-40 is more what I'm looking for. I'm leaning towards trying motul though anyways

I use Total Quartz racing/Elf 10W-50 in summer, and have always used Elf/Total 5w-40winter oil for years! I was racing in Utah at MillerMotorsports race track(what a track)a while back, and was told that independent testing on Total/Elf oil was said to be the best on the market! Hope you can find it in the US? maybe try BC?

5w40 is going to break down quicker and honestly a a little on the light side in most brands. IMHO you are better off with a heavier oil and a slightly longer warm up time.

Every test I have seen puts Elf and Motul pretty much on par, and the Motul is stabilized. Add that to the fact Elf is 260 a pail here and motul is 210.........

agreed on the 10w40, I run it as soon as it gets hot enough for me to take out the flippy-floppies. 5w-30 when it gets cold again. But I'm running mobil 1, whereas Redline promotes their 5w30 is equivalent to heavier weight oil, not sure what you would make of that.

and running the motul rbf600 - it really is a noticeable difference over OEM. Haven't compared to ate blue, because I skipped over it after reading the VS review comparisons.

I actually just found a place that looks like they sell Elf oil in the US (http://eurosyntheticoils.com/) but I think I'm gonna give motul a try this time around. I cant find the drain interval for motul 300V anywhere on the web, Chuck, do you happen to know what it is or where I might be able to find it? Also, what exactly does stabilized mean? I have never heard of anyone having a problem running elf quartz 9000 for even the full 10,000 miles drain interval in daily drivers.

I might be over the top, but i change every 4500 miles/7000km! I sleep better known that... some disagree and say its too soon? I've put on 34,000miles in 3 yrs, so its not going to make that much of a difference $$$ wise.
