My 2007 S-60 2.5T withn 7000 miles does not like starting on the first try of the day of when cold. It coughs sputtters and dies starts fine 2nd try. Had the problem when I first bought it and they changed the ignition switch, worked fine for about 1 year. They tell me there is no error code showing. Sounds to me like a fuel supply problem. Any ideas would be appreciated so I can tell Volvo what to look for.

This could be fuel or air problems. I would warm the engine up with a fuel pressure gauge attached and then cut it off to check if the fuel pressure regulator holds pressure. If that is okay, check the idle air control valve to see if it is dirty. Or force the dealer to fix the problem, it only has 7000 miles on it for crying out loud. Any technician would know what to look for in this situation. Get them to replicate the problem so they can see it happen. They should be able to fix it considering they have spare parts to test it with.

No idle air valves on 99+ cars(except s40/v40). Idle is controlled via the electronic throttle. Sometimes intermittent problems don't always reveal themselves in the shop and there very well could have been no codes stored.

I am supposed to turn in over Hoy Fox Volvo Service Dept. El Paso, TX Monday they said they will keep it for as long as it takes. No problem as long as I get the loaner car. tell them to check your suggestions Thanks TH
I do agree that you should leave the car for sometime so they can properly diagnosis this, perhaps even authorize the technician drive the car home one night, sometimes that can make a world of difference. Let us know the results.

They called yesterday and said it was fixed, they tried to tell me somthing like the cranck case vent was plugged with oil. It didn't make any sence to me.. Took it home last night and this morning NO START first try. Not real impressed with the service Dept.

A clogged PCV system will not cause a not start condition. And PCV systems don't get clogged at 7k miles either. Is there another dealer in your area?

After returning today they are telling me that they think is may be the gas I am using. They have had several recent similar complaints from VW, amd mercedes owners and every one was using SAM's Club premium gas. I will try a tank or two and if no change bring it back.
