Hey there..never really posted in this part of the forum (i've owned a 93 850GLT...no power there =p)

Anyways, i've done a bit of searching, probably not enough, but this is the dealio. I put a 2.5inch Cat + back (all mandrel bent) on my 93 a whiles back, love it, wouldnt change it, and amazingly enough it does not sound rice! (and it did help when i did it 3+ years ago...car has aged to 219k miles =p)

Now i've got this 96 850R to boot. Seems to be pretty stock..i've found a k&n so far lol...I've already taken care of the radio, cleaned that part up, now its time for some real mods. It looks like only the muffler was replaced on the car..and the odometer shows about 105k miles on it, but i believe theres about 130k (i fixed the odometer once i got it too :P)

The exhaust i did on the 93, cost me about 640$ for a cat + back. not too shabby and its definitely held up.

For the 96 however, I of course want to replace the downpipe.

if that link works...

My goal is to have a complete 3 inch Turbo back...i know i am probably losing too much back pressure, but i enjoy my free flowing car...its why i like to think my 93 is so happy lol. As well, i would prefer the complete 3 inch back for future endeavors. I'm sure i'll be the rice boy with it this open, but oh well...i'll have more to back it up then half the people in their stupid arse crx's or w/e those POS hatchback civic things are that are slower then my 93 lol

Now that ebay kit, sells the 2 Downpipes (which, obviously i only need one....I believe 96R is straight flange? but i'd prefer someone with more knowledge to fill me in) and a 2.5 inch cat+ back system.....for 400$ lol

So i'm wondering...since money is kinda tight....If i fork the 400$ on this, keep the one downpipe i do need or both, idk i'm sure someone on here could use the other one, and bolt up the 2.5 inch exhaust system that comes with that kit as a temporary until i can afford what i'm sure is gonna be 700$ for the shop i took the 93 to do a custom 3 inch mandrel..

My other question is then this, if i do just go ahead and buy a downpipe from anyone on here, what flange and as well, can i bolt it up to the stock cat for temp?
I've never been a fan of OBX , but at this price it's too tempting :x

Sorry for longwinded, but too many options on my mind lol

Back pressure is irrelevant. The turbo provides all the pressure needed in the exhaust.

You won't need more than 2.5" unless you are putting a much bigger turbo on the car. 3" will only get you drone on the freeway.

Most 96s are straight flange, but the early ones could still be conical. You need to verify that before spending money.

Err thanks for the info =p You can tell i've owned an N/A too long i guess...

The biggest turbo i plan on putting on, is an 18T...i've read 3 inch goes good with it, but unsure.

My biggest thing aside from the size of the exhaust, is that the 2.5 inch part is not mandrel bent(or atleast it doesn't say..)

I don't mind drone personally, that 93 with 2.5 inch doesn't drone THAT bad, but i have loud speakers to cancel out my hearing anyways haha.

It doesn't look like the 2.5 inch part has a cat attached to it either....and i'm pretty sure i read around here that our cars don't like test pipes....my intention is for a high flow cat, which i read our cars sorta don't like either but hey...it'll have to deal with it. Curious what you think on the situation...i can't go back to gainesville quiet...i need something to compete with the ambulances =0

Thanks

The OBX system sounds deceent. Not a bad price and it gives you 2 downpipes for the different turbo setups.

Just get one with a good resinator, and it won't drone.....that bad. Sebring tuning has a good resinator.

If you are swapping turbos, then go ahead with the 3"..... Why spend the money twice? that would be a waste.

Well the issue is moreso...i need the 3inch downpipe...no matter what i do..so thats a good 150 bucks + shipping from the looks of things...then to get the exhaust system done to the 3inch the way i want...thats gonna be in 700-800$ land...cause i'm picky and want it done right =p

so im looking at 950 bucks, i don't really have.

But if i buy the kit off ebay, thats 460$ for the downpipe..so im paying 300$ for the exhaust system and extra DP...sell the other DP if i can, and i'm getting a semi-decent exhaust system pretty cheap-o.

Unfortunately, i dont think i can drive around open downpipe hehe..nothing against anyone who does, but my friend had a 3000gt VR4 like that..yikes

And it doesn't sound/look like i can just replace the downpipe for now and bolt it up to the stock 850 turbo exhaust/cat...unless someone can confirm that i can? =)

Thats the main thing i need/want changed ASAP is the downpipe..but it doesnt sound like theres much options w/o welding it to the stock...

Thanks for the replies!
