And what a horrible story, a Mustang? Really? The wagon, completely stock minus the 5spd, out ran my friends 07 Mustang GT. Last track day, all the new Mustangs were still in the low 15's, high 14's, with I/E.

And no way are you ever going to get a 19T to make 400whp. Well, I suppose never say never, but it's just not very practical.

Funny because they are known to run mid 13's stock. You must have come across a bunch of noobs with that car! When I had my 03 GT vert I would walk all over many other Stangs that should have beat me. I used to sigh and wonder how many people out there beat these guys and think their car is faster than a Mustang...you beat the driver. That is all. Pre 99 mustangs are dogs...those you will have no problem with. But after that it's not such an easy win for you.

The 2011 GT at the track I went to stayed right next to a 2010 Corvette Z06 down the majority of the track. Mustangs are no joke...the majority of mustang drivers are.

Holy stuff. This was a WAYYY dead thread!

Anyhow - given the last posts were from '09, stuff's changed quite a lot.

BMac's in the process of a 400+whp build, lookforjoe just put down 350+ awhp a few weeks ago, and my motor is slowly coming together as well. The Volvovette doesn't count because it's clearly NOT stock when it sounds like a 'Vette.

I don't think Overloaded's car hasn't been mentioned either. There are quite a few cars in the 400+ group now, but most are based out of Sweden.

Should think about the tune first. There are a bunch of people with decently sized turbos that don't put down 'nice hp numbers'.

I have always wondered about that. why over in sweden these dudes can get 5-700hp. but over here we can only get that 3-400hp. Its got to be the tuning or is there something I am missing here.
1996 850 turbo wagon auto, Custome intake, MSD coil, IPD spark plug wires, Eibach springs, Bilstiens HD, Mesh grill, IPD strut tower bar, ultra racing 2 point rear strut bar, Tiki end-links,IPD intake manifold spacer, FCP silicone inter-cooler hoses, stoptech steel braided brake lines front and rear, completely rebuilt auto tranny, Complete stage zero. soon to have (white injectors, s70 front end, 16t, ARD tune)

THIS!!....also, depends completely on the mustang...I briefly had a 92 Saleen with a 347 and a Paxton NOVI-2000, TrickFlow heads etc etc...that would run low 11s on street tires if you were easy on the throttle..and on drag radials..mid 10s no problem. (couldn't do any better with out serious suspension mods, but since it was a street car and not a drag car...)

Stock Fox body LX with 5.0 and 5sp would break into the high 12s with just an airbox mod and a good driver on a cool day.

Also pre-99 only means 96-99 (DOGS).. The 88-93 Fox cars will walk all over a lot of cars..and the 94-95 sn95s were just OK.
Me: 1998 S70 T5 manual 238k. leaks no oil. Wife: 2005 XC90 5cyl turbo/AWD, 107k..leaks enough oil to make BP seem eco-friendly

I'll join the chorus - I had an Fox body GT that was awfully quick even stock. The 5.0l engine pushed 400hp naturally aspirated with AFR heads. Plus, I had a giant SKOAL sticker for the hatch window. Next to the stock body kit that cracked and shattered over time, I lookt good. For a cheap drag racer, I think they're tough to beat.

But I loves my 855 : roomy and reliable; fast and getting faster
I dig the sleeper status & I love the comfort. No stripper, here.

In a perfect world, we'd have the same aftermarket selection as the mustang, but I'll never put a Skoal sticker on it.
'96 855 automatic. Color 214 <-now I will remember this. IPD stage 1 ecu, rip.

Saleens are sweet and one with a 347 and a paxton must have been INSANE!! I bet after that, not much else impresses you ;P

Previously, I was referring to the 94-98 are dogs because 99 was the introduction of the new edge mustang which had pi heads which was a 60hp increase over the previous style. Fox body stangs were no joke when done right...they were DAMN fast! Lightly modded fox bodies...not so much. I raced a kid from my neighborhood with his 92 that had intake, exhaust and GT40 heads. I didn't walk past him...I RAN past him! I know that many fox body stangs are quick, but the ones I ran against were an easy win. I guess it really depends. I test drove an auto 93 GT vert years ago and it couldn't even break the tires loose.

Again, not saying foxes are slow...just slow if not modded right.

99-04 were slow in auto form. I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole. My manual was only quick because I had a ton of mods...Long tube BBK headers, ORX, Borla catback, BBK CAI, SCT dyno tune, Fidanza aluminum flywheel, Hurst short throw shifter, BBK springs, endlinks, and full length subframe connectors. She put down 271RWHP, 311RWTQ. I would decimate most people out of the hole because I had such great torque, and the car fell on it's face at 85mph because the hp was okay but not great, which is where most better cars would catch and pass me like C5 vettes, Caddy CTSV, LS1 Camaro etc.

05+ had horrible bottom end because they were tanks. I would toast them out of the hole, but they had better top end because of the 3v heads.

The new 2011 would have made my 03 it's beeeotch!

When I referred to foxes it was based only on LX 5.0 manual..The GTs weren't as fast.. 250lbs heavier and convertibles were even slower...Add an auto and "no thanks".
Its funny when you say that after that "not much impresses me" because that car was impressive for what it was (511 whp and 582 Tq with .428 gears..Tremec trans) it would do killer burnouts @ 60mph in 3rd gear passing on the highway...other than that it was impossible to drive everyday..brakes sucked.. Drive in the rain? NOPE..top speed..~130..no back seats..hot..
I now like fast sedans...they impress me, fully daily driver and can run with anything on the highway. I don't care about quarter mile times anymore, its all a money race now. just not into the Mustang thing anymore either..I got it from my brother who bought it from a co-worker and had no clue what he was getting into! I got rid of it 11 years ago. It sounded KILLER though. I will say I have some respect for any fast car and a good driver..a fun car is a fun car no matter who makes it and a passionate owner who knows how to drive is always a +..

Very clean install! I've never driven a 740 v8 conversion, but all the ones I had looked at / talked to the owners of/ back when Volvo used to do their annual open house in Rockleigh said much the same thing, the exception being worked/blown V8's, of course.
