Looking to be able to use an ipod or alternative device with the existing HU-650. I've seen articles (http://volvospeed.com/Mods/rcaouts.pdf) detailing how to make the correct DIN adapter for RCA outs.

I just wanted to ask the experts before I get around to opening up my radio/HU.

I have an HU-650
-no DVD/Nav
-no integrated phone
-no CD changer

1) Will I have an open DIN (or other) port on the back of my HU to support making this adapter without losing the regular features (antenna radio, regular dash CD player, steering wheel controls)

2) Will not having an amp cause a problem (with volume, interference, etc)?...as long as the sound is regular radio qualitylike I don't mind.

Plan was to create this adapter, then merge the female RCAs into a single female mini-RCA and install that in a blank button on the Environmental portion of the dash/HU, which would then be linked to a Belkin ipod car charger, which gets the audio from the ipod firewire base connection.

Thanks for the help!

I know there are adapters out there, but I'm not looking to spend 75-150$ when I could potentially make something a little simpler for ~$10

what you've linked to are outputs. what you need are inputs. the link would be useful if you were trying to hook up an external amp for subwoofers, but it won't play things in. the adapter that you need for an ipod is going to plug in in the spot where an external CD changer would plug in. on top of that, it requires a logic board, otherwise the head unit of the radio won't switch to it, because it won't see what it's looking for. it really is, in this case, best to get the adapter.
