just noticed last week IPD now has the B4 servo replacement kit for sale and bought it to install this weekend. Going thru the VADIS instructions (if anybody has found a write up link!) I notice it says the car needs some minor reprogramming from the dealership. yes/no???

I don't think the software update and B4 servo are directly related.

I would imagine the software update they are referring to would be the neutral stop update.

I think it was something about learning or acquiring after doing the b4 cover update. Not necessarily an update, think that wordage was misleading

Yeah, but if you don't have the update. Get it ASAP, I think it's the biggest cause of failures.

the only reason they say you need to "re-adapt" the transmission after is because the B4 servos are replaced for harsh shifting as they break inside. Why replace it if it isn't broken?

But if it's not broken and you "feel" like replacing it you won't have to re-adapt the transmission.

I did my B4 cover a bit over a month ago and have put on, maybe, 1500 kms since then. My original cover wasn't in pieces like those shown in some of the posts on the subject, but I have really smoothed out the 2-3 ( and eliminated a bit of flare too) and 3-4 shifts nonetheless. All I did was clear what tranny settings I could by disconnecting the battery overnight and then driving easy for 20-30kms. Worked pretty well from the get-go and has been improving a little bit gradually ever since.

Not to say this is definitive at all, just what I experienced. Going to the dealer for me is a huge hassle being a couple of hours away and this update seemed do-able the easy way.

Cheers,

Every single person's experience with the b4 is correct - this is an easy job. It's just a hassle holding the piston and cover in while trying to get the circlip to pop in. But pretty damn easy.

There were significant noticeable differences in the cover from my original OEM model vs. the updated cover. As far as shifting - my shifting was fine before and is still fine now. So, disaster averted?
