Hey guys whatsup, new here. I recently picked up an '89 740 Non-Turbo. I was wondering(and don't laugh at this) is there any way I could swap the body of an exotic car onto the volvo frame. If the wheel base is similar, couldn't I just pick a ferrari/lamb body etc... and just swap it?

-What would be involved with a swap-easy or hard?
-Also, how much could you guys see this costing.

A show on Discovery I saw swapped a cars body and that gave me the idea.

So opinions???
Thanks,
Noonan

Welcome but in all my time on the internetz this has to be the most ridiculous ways to introduce yourself on a new forum.

Why would you buy a old/slow ass Volvo and put a Lambo body on it?

If you want a cheesy exotic kit car, go buy a fiero and one of the various Lambo-Ferrari kits they make for them.

Well, the volv is what I'm stuck with plus couldn't really afford much more

I don't want a fiero-i don't buy american-and I don't think swapping bodies is cheesy. I think it's really cool. If people would think I had a Ferrari it'd be nuts!

I'm gonna be 18 in December, what does that have to do with anything??

Plus as far as a body, I figured I'd pick it up from a wrecked one in the junk yard. I could do the bodywork myself and save some money PLUS it would help me learn how to do it

Right, because there are tons of wrecked Lamborghinis in junkyards across the USA! As common as a Chevy Malibu, for sure.

OK, so who's board at work today? Danny? Maybe Kevin is back for some fun?

Don't let them discourage you, that type of swap can certainly be done.
It will take some research to determine what exotic car body would work best on your current chassis.

You'll need some wrenching skills to get the unibody off the 740, and the unibody off said exotic car and place it on top of the 740.
You'll need some welding skills and probably some body work skills too.
You might need some paint skills depending on the condition of the new body.
Also you'll need some electrical and wiring skills to connect the 740 body electronics to your new body.
Probably need some interior and upholstery skills to so you can meld the interiors together.

So probably start by getting some experience with your current car and then you can move on to a larger project.
Turbobricks.com has a lot of experienced people who do stuff like this all the time. Check it out if you get a minute.

the shells of the exotics are going to be well out of your pricerange. i would image they would still cost tens of thousands of dollars for a clean one

If you could do this, you could sell your services and just buy a new car. Your looking at 40-50k in labor and parts to do it right. If you can do it yourself, just open a shop.

Thanks for the advice lucky!!!!

I will look into this stuff and into learning more about the car. I'm also gonna start keeping an eye out for exotic bodies. I'm also going to look into getting a turbo b/c everyone here says my car is slow. I thought it was fast==> it got up to 100mph the other day!!! good pickup
