I have a co-worker who owns a S60 (T-2.5) and wants to know how difficult it might be to change the automatic transmission fluid on this model car? I personally own a 1995 850 and know it isn't a problem to do it yourself in the driveway with 15 qts. of fresh fluid and a 5 gallon bucket. Please inform as to the difficulty level for the S60.

Thanks!

yes, go to ipdusa.com and buy the kit trust me it's worth replacing the o-rings. They will leak if you reuse them. And you only need 12qts for the s60, also buy the fluid at either ipdusa or avlube

i've got my ipd change kit, and a case of 3309.
i thought that i was supposed buy a couple extra quarts of dino ATF and run that through first?

but my buddy pointed out to me that it would never be completely out of the system. I guess my big question is, is 12 quarts enough to completely flush the system? and just out of curiosity what is the actual capacity of the transmission? assuming an 01 S60 2.4t

you better be using a very good synthetic oil or kiss your tranny goodbye! and flush with the good stuff so none of that junky dino gets stuck in there.

12qts is plenty for your s60.

Misinformation: The volvo fluid is NOT synthetic, and the Mobil 3309 (which is the exact same stuff just rebadged) is NOT synthetic.

Using the Toyota T1V fluid is also Mobil 3309. Other than those three you will be chancing it as they are all three approved as meeting JWS 3309 oil specification.

Even doing drain and fills is okay. The important thing with these tranny's is to refresh the friction modifiers every couple of years.

This is the first time I've seen any one mention friction modifiers use in the S60. If this is true, what friction modifiers should be added to the 3309?

He's referring to the friction modifiers already present in 3309
