do the compression test, it's always good to know your numbers.

I agree the valve theory doesn't totally fit, given codes/description. Sounds like fuel/spark.

What did your cap look like inside when you pulled it? was there a lot of schmutz in there? Maybe your cam seal is seeping into the cap (and thus into the new one too) and the oil is disrupting spark, causing random misfires. Fits the bill, easy enough to check.

Compression Test results are in. :(

Cyl 1: 100
Cyl 2: 100
Cyl 3: 150
Cyl 4: 100
Cyl 5: 30

My money's on a burnt valve.

Time to pop the head off.
Is there a good tutorial anywhere on how to replace a bad valve? Also, how do I preserve the block with the head off? I don't have a garage. Fogging oil and a tarp?

Oh, and where's the best place to source head gaskets, valves, and all the related tubes of goop I'll need?

That is LOW all around.....way below the specs

Try doing it again just to be sure the other chambers are ok =0

But looks like #5 is in the pooper either way :(
Atleast after you fix it all up it'll run awesome after all the tuning up youve done =)

Moved this to a thread on a head rebuild, as that's what I'm in the middle of right now (actually... just getting the thing off is a full weekend), but yeah, compression is *low*. I'm not burning any oil, so I don't suspect the rings... The headgasket has most likely seen much better days, and I'm going to lap the valves while I'm in there. If I can get all the cylinders up above 130, then I feel comfortable putting off the full rebuild for a few years until I can afford to put something awesome in the rotating assembly...
