My R wagon (bright red) is due for paint at some point in my restoration. I've seen a few folks that have painted the bumper caps and door guards the same color as the car. Does anyone have pics of an 850 with just the front and rear bumper caps painted and the side moulding left as black?

My repaint is still a bit down the road, but figure I'd see if there are some examples out there of all the trim painted and just the front/rear bumper caps painted. Also, if I decide to stay with black trim, should I paint them...or just try to re-juvenate with kiwi dye or back to black?

TIA..

Look at a red V70, that's what it will look like.

I painted the trim flat black and it looks awesome, it really pops on the red paint.
If you don't know how to take off the trim, pm me and I will talk you through it.
When you know how to take the trim off, it makes things so easy.

What about winters? I've considered painting my trim but was told that with cold winters it can take a toll on the trim paint and cause peeling.

Painting trim is probably the best way to restore your trim. I used to use dyes, but after painting my first bit of trim, I must say that I am never using dyes again.

There needs to be a unified thread on this. This subject comes up WAY too often.

true, I've searched and read through most of them. What I am looking for though is to see if someone has painted the front and rear bumper trim but left door handles and side moulding black?..I've found 1) all painted body color, and 2)re-painted/dyed black. Maybe a task for someone with some photoshop skills?

painted bumpers on an 850 looks like crap, the 70 series bumpers are different in many ways and flow with the cars much better

Had my trim painted, wasted lots of time and money trying to keep it looking nice. I love it now.

If you are going to paint it i'd do all of it, I think it would look funny if you left the doors guards black. Also, stop putting trim dressing on it now, or it will be hard for the paint to stick once you do get it done.
