Hi there,
We're thinking about purchasing a 1st gen of V70 (2000 model) with 2.4 20v.
The car looks immaculate, has one owner and full log book.
Now, what are the potential issues with those cars ? I've read that people suggest to stay away from those.
Is there any particular reason for that ? Gearboxes, ECUs, etc ?
Thanks!

your getting the 4speed auto so you wont have a tranny issue .
acutally with a NA there nothing to go bad lol
if it has full records and such you cant go wrong.
I was going to reply to your thing on vortex but I dont remeber my login for there

mileage?
150,000 kms. The time belt has been done 30ks ago and AC fixed not long ago as well.

haha, it's a small world, isn't it ?
As I said, we're tossing between a Saab 9000, Benz E280T (unlikely) and a Volvo.
I am quite familiar with Saabs and think that they are fairly simple to look after, no idea about Volvos though.

OH GOD RUN
get a 99 with the 4speed auto .
never buy a first year anything
the 5speed autos are pure crap from 00-02 after that they change a few things in them and work great
Granted it is a NA so you might not have a tranny issue, but I personally wouldnt buy it .

Yes, this one is definitely 5sp.
Same vintage Turbo'ed cars are 4sp.

yes. The exception here would be 2000 XC's and the R's.

Transmission failure on the N/A's is not as high as R's and XC's but I don't have much faith in the early 5spd autos. If nothing else the garage shift is irritating as hell.

Thanks guys, I'll probably test drive the car on Saturday and take a look at log book. The transmission could have been reconditioned by now.
