So Ive been driving this volvo s70 t5 since i was 16 and im turning 19 on tuesday and im wondering what i can do to make the car handle better and make it faster off the line and top speed wise but not drop alot of money.

Reasons: Im going to buy it off my parents for really cheap like my mom said $900 :) so not that its really mine I want to have more fun :)

Future:If I make it sick ill keep for a while but right now I would love a 02'-04 bmw m3

Truth, hahaha.

Anyway, manual or auto? I'm guessing the latter, which means you're limited to around 300whp through the trans, which is all right because you can't get more than that out of the stock engine and turbo anyways. You say "faster off the line". These are FWD cars. Speed from a stop is not something they're good at. More like high speed highway cruisers. Handling is something that a lot can be done for. How much ride smoothness are you willing to sacrifice in the name of turning responsiveness?

I suggest you read through the sticky that EricF wrote.

Get some decent shocks, lowering springs, pick up an OBX strut bar ...and rear sway if you really want it to handle.

I would stay away from an OBX Strut Bar... they are not very expensive and you will not notice much of a difference.

I would go with an OMP Strut Brace. They are awesome and not too bad with price. $175 new or contact Delaware96R he is parting out his car for an OMP Brace at $150 which is a good price

If you want bang for your buck to improve turning response, I think some ipd sways would be a MUCH better buy. IMO, the strut bar is something you get as a finishing touch to the suspension upgrades :D

As far as what to pick up for the suspension, you have to deal with the comfort vs performance tradeoff. Koni makes some good stuff that is a swap-in replacement for our cars, I'm running the adjustable Yellows with H&R springs. If you don't want a harsh ride but would like some crisp response, you can opt for the FSD shocks with Eibach springs.

I would figure out how long you plan to keep the car before you start to modding it. That is a slippery slope and you never get any of the money back that you put in (maybe 10%).

With that being said, for $900 your getting a lot of car. 02 M3's are going for at least 16k so unless you or your parents are going to throw down that amount of money for a car then id probably toss that idea out the window until you get a real job after college.

If you plan to keep it there is a lot of stuff you can do to make the car sick.

for suspension, here is a list of things youll need to replace along with some suggestions:

Spring Seats (front)
Strut Mounts (front)
Shock Mounts (rear)
Koni FSD's (more comfort) or Koni Yellow (more adjustability)
Ipd springs (largest drop) or eibachs (comfort) or H&R's (middle of both)

Go to shox.com and tell them you are on volvospeed, you should get a 10% discount.

I'm with you being 19 and not wanting to spend a lot, but have a cool car.
I would def lower the car.
I have eibach pro lowering spring and bilstein HD shocks. That makes it look nice and then I got some 17" volan wheels with low pro tires and it looks nice.
Performance, I would honestly do stage 0. Guessing this car has some miles and regardless being 19 your gonna rev the hell out of it, and so things will need replacing. So, finaish stage 0 and then get cat back exhaust, boost guage and a speedtuning tune. That should make the car fun.
I have that, and i tinted the windows and put 6000K hids on it, so even people that don't like volvos think it looks nice, and its fast. Win Win man.
And, I've raced a 98 M3 which I know is slower than the new ones, but I beat it, and you could totally take on of those with your volvo. Plus beamer owners or dicks half the time.
99 S70 glt. 16T, st 17psi, straight 2.5" exhaust, ipd intake, eibach, bilstein, 17" volans, turboxs bov, tint.full stage 0 done!:)

Turbo MAF $50 shipped obo
