Hey guys!

One of those very cold days I just turn the AC temp from 60 to 80 but I never turn the fan on...I figured it would just give me a little of heat on my way to my job..it worked fine both sides were nice and warm...but on my way home I put it back to 60 degrees cuz it was cold and breezy so I put my windows up driving down the highway and I realized that heat was comming out of the vents((Driver side; never turned the A/C on).....I checked the pasenger side and it was cool like the outside temp...so I'm thinking it probably got stock when I turned to 80 and it never went back to normal...
When I turn the AUTO and A/C on + REC the passenger side gets Freezing but my side )Driver side) doesn't..... still kinda warm... :(
I don't know if there is any valve that controls my side or any sensor that might be gone....any thoughts or suggestions..

Thanks Josh :D

Sounds like one of those little joyful motors may have failed back there that operate the flaps.....Volvo can read those CC codes, I'd start there so you can be sure you're tearing into the correct thing.

Put the key in Pos. II and turn the knob that is in question here......can you hear a motor behind the dash? If so there's a plastic portion that the motor actuates that likes to break as well.

Yes, you should be able to hear a motor when you turn your selector knob. That is the motor rotating the flapper inside the ducts, thus controlling temperature. :D

Yep, temp. selector is what I meant.
That information is going to require someone more experienced in replacing said things as I have never been faced with the issue. :(

Hope you get it sorted out soon!

As I said, your Volvo dealer can read your CC fault codes and tell you exactly what needs replaced. I'm pretty sure the motors aren't too too bad of a job. But then again, what is easy when it should be in the Volvo game.

heheh true dat Aaron

Theyre called damper motors, and while i've never played with mine past manually operating it and hoping for hot/cold, it sounds dead on like it.

If you end up deciding to pull the ECC out , and want to test it before you drop $$$ , i can give you the pins and where to put the jumperwire, and you will hear it =) Of course, if its siezed you won't hear anything LOL

You'll need to visit the dealer at some point on this, because even if you replace the damper motor, it needs to be recalibrated. On OBDI this is doable, however, without the main volvo tool OBDII is near impossible (you might be able to do it if you slap an OBDI ECU in and then do the led method or whatnot to enter codes etc etc...but at this point youll go why)

If you don't recalibrate, it wont be accurate to the temps on the knob obviously..but youd likely be able to sort it out.

Also, check that airmix etc isnt on and yea...

hopefully it doesnt cost an arm and a leg...replace motor and all yourself and hope theirs a nice indy who can hook you up with recalb!

installation i don't know about, other then when i looked at it there was a harness with mb 5 wires (this was a 93...shouldnt be any diff) and it looked like a few screws/bolts holding it in.

I have the same problem.

I was fortunate that when it first happened after messing with it several times it returned to cold. Unfortunately, today I tried the warm temps again only for it to get stuck there.

Even if you get it to work right for now, it is only a matter of time. :(
