If that doesnt work buy a 940 (or 1990+ 740 if you cant find otherwise) - you can probably get one for less than $1500 easy. maybe up to $2K for a 940 for a daily driver until you decide what to do with the S80.

Also with it being a GM 4T65... there are rebuild kits and beefier upgrades
So its not a total loss

I know, right.
I'm half way tempted to buy several kits, and resell them later as people post about their dead 4T65Es
between here and SS, I'd make a mint

Get the codes read. Those transmissions are designed to slip a little to make shifting smoother. Uses data from the front O2 (lamdba) sensors to retard timing at that precise moment too. If you read VADIS the communication process between ECM and TCM is actually fairly complex. Even a clogged oil trap puking into the intake can screw with it, making it seem like a transmission problem when it really isn't. I bet 75% or more of the GM transmissions that were declared dead were actually OK, which also explains why so many people continue to have problems after they're rebuilt. They're actually pretty tough and were even used in cop cars like the 3.8L supercharged Impala.

If I ever buy another Volvo it'll be a stick shift.
