Well previously I had been using my gorilla pod for a camera mount in and outside the car, but everytime It was outside I always got a little worried... so I decided to make a solid camera mount...

I bought a big suction cup from harbor freight then took it to my welding class where I mad ea big U shaped platform with a plate on top (not the best welds, I'm a noob, but I trust my sloppy welds to hold, I went a bit overboard on it. then I bought a crappy tripod, took it apart and used the top piece to be able to adjust the angle etc of the camera when on the mount.

Here are some pics and a few videos of it mounted on the side of my car with my shitty digital camera on it, I need to make a foam wind reducer just so it's not so harsh. (in the pics it's mounted to my fridge, haha)

yeah, it's not a looker but damn is it sturdy, the suction cup will hold 200 lbs is what it is claimed to do, plenty for a small camera/camcorder. I'm gonna test it out more when I go home for thanksgiving and I go on a cruise with a bunch of people, then I'll have a better camera then too.

Yeah, if I suction it to the inside of a window or something similar, the suction cups are hard to stick to curved surfaces but you can make em work on the windows.

it doesn't actually vibrate that bad, as I'm pleasantly surprised.

I just went and tested it once more, but this time I mounted it a bit higher and so that the top of the camera was almost under my mirror, it reduced wind noise 10 fold, I'm gonna post up another video from tonight, it doesn't have quite the same angle but the wind noise is greatly reduced and seems like it works a lot better!

I took more video earlier and it came out ten times better because it's in the daylight... it's uploading now and will be posted later.

I use the Bogen Magic arm, I use them at work hanging all kinds of cameras all over the place. I then clamp it inside the car to the "Oh SH*T" handle when I was at the track last weekend.

That's great! Although mine was free, I use them from work all them time. And I can mount to anything I can clamp too or I could add a suction cup or a ball swivel camera mount. That and some parachute cord and I could mount it to anything. I'm just saying Bogen is what the pros use... Posted Image

But I'm sure yours still looks fine for $20....
