We are in Chicago area for Thanksgiving. This colder weather has brought about a couple of new noises.

One is from steering column. I just greased the bearing at firewall so dont think that is it. Sounds like it is coming from under the cover, from around the elec. portion of ignition. Seems to only makes the groaning noise when wheel is turned to the left. If you straighten the wheel and put your hand at 12 o'clock and turn to 9 back and forth it will make the noise.

Second noise is from the drivers side (best guess) under the hood. It has done it all three mornings and by the time I got hood open last 2 times it is gone. Is a very similar groaning noise the steering wheel is making just a lower pitch. Have to rev car a bit, I am guessing between 1100 and 1200 RPMs it starts to make the noise. Only lasts probably a minute and then goes away. Just trying to get a checklist of what to look for before we head home to TX and it will probably quit. I assume tensioner is probably a good start even though its on Pass side.

Have a great holiday.

Sounds like the second noise may be from belt tensioner...but this sound comes from passenger sound.

It is passanger side, got out this morning after starting it. I assume belt tensioner. Will it hurt to leave it for a while? How long is to long.

Thanks

You should be OK as long as its not extremely/abnormally loud...any vibrations, or is it just noise?
