Hey gang,

Decided to head to a VW Vortex dyno day this morning - but I brought the Volvo instead of the VW!

Here were the results.

Stock tune (8.2psi max) + 3" turbo back + K&N = 193.7whp/188.2wtq
RICA tune (17.6psi max) + 3" turbo back + K&N = 234.4whp/262.6wtq
TLAO tune (17.9psi max) + 3" turbo back + K&N = 239.3whp/263.3wtq

Thanks! My guess was 230, so I was pretty close. I doubt the VW makes more than 170 so that would have been a little boring.

The N/A 12V VR6 cars that were there made 163 and 175, and a 1.8T with a turbo upgrade and 20-something PSI made 345.

Numbers look good. Is yours still an automatic transmission? If so, what gear did you run in and how did you keep it from kicking down to a lower gear?

The air/fuel looks good on the blue run, but seems the richer red run got you some extra power and torque. Intersting..

Great post, Sean. I wish there had been an IPD tune available too. If anyone is wondering, TLAO is "The Lost Art Of". There's a thread discussing custom tunes he's making, primarily for 850's.

Yes, 200k auto trans. 3rd gear. Slowly accel up to 3rd (with the selector in 3) and then quickly roll into full throttle at around 60mph. No downshift.

TLAO - thelostartof from turbobricks.com. His name is Mike. He also has LH2.4 chips, and should have LH2.2 chips if he doesn't already.

I think there's more to it than just the fueling - unfortunately I didn't have my OBDII scanner going so I couldn't see the ignition advance.

Both AFR tables are good, so I'm actually taking the wideband out and putting it in another car. I've always kinda thought that as trendy as widebands are, they really aren't necessary when you're just running off the shelf tuning parts that hundreds of people have already used, and you know what the AFR's are going to be anyway. If the fueling is significantly off, you'd know it.

I'm not messing with big turbos or 30psi, so for me with just intake, tune, exhaust...a wideband really isn't necessary.

Did you swap out brains after each run, or does the brain you have run sockets that you can swap in the new chips? Either way, a simple chip upgrade gets you 45rwhp and 75ish torque..very nice..off to turbobricks to see what TLAO is all about..

Thanks! They are from Auber Instruments...fit perfectly in the stock switch blank/switch locations. They actually just snapped in, I didn't have to do anything to mount them! The other cool thing about these gauges is that they are multimeters - they have 10 terminals on the back, and you can use the gauge for almost anything...boost, water temp, oil temp, pressure, air/fuel. Just hook up the corresponding terminals and set the parameters on the gauge for what you're using it for.

Yes I am here to, just to damn busy to hit up all of the forums and deal with the rest of life.

I am a wee bit surprised my tune did so well as mine does pull a bit of timing up top for a safety factor but it looks like it did not hurt all that bad, Notice the quicker spool up and peaks on power. Power under the curve looks a fair amount better

Nice!

Looks like you had to cut out the bridge between two switches, no? The gauge looks to be the width of two...

I may have to get one or two to use for Oil press & intake temp

Yeah, I just took a razor blade and cut that little plastic bridge. That was the extent of the install. Haha. Never had it so easy!
