I got a little something today from the autoparts store : )

this pic should explain it

Posted Image

PLAN #1 (the boring but quick? version)
Pull engine replace engine with 98T5m engine end of story.

PLAN #2 (what I'd love to do if I had the time and knew what I was doing)
Pull engine and awd system. Replace with 98T5m engine and transmission.

POTENTIAL HANGUPS:

never installed an engine.
never removed awd system.
never done a manual swap.

POSSIBLE OUTCOMES:

Fail

Fail partly

Win

you choose. stay tuned.

confidence man confidence! im sure there are people around that are willing to give you a hand.
And in my opinion i would just do the t5m swap the first time around, you will be kicking your self when you are pulling the motor and trans a second time around to put in a manual.
honestly if you remove the driveshaft you can just leave the rear end in place and run it as fwd, and it will be easier to put in the motor and trans without the awd bevel gear.
in conclusion...manual swap that bitch and ditch the drive shaft! B)

I had never pulled an engine prior to doing my manual swap. You can do this, especially since this is not your DD.

Go for it. Pulling an engine is very straight foward and really not that difficult.

I like Justin's idea. Christian, do it all, go all out and have fun with it, you don't need the car right away.

Do it once.

Pulling the AWD components is no biggie. You can hold on to them in case I break another bevel gear

Keep the multilink rear!

i think my fate has been decided for me. it's almost as though it was meant to be. I need an ECU though and pedals. Only things I don't have for the swap for a V70.

'98 T5M ECU's are not so common. usually go for over $200.

...and gas tank and fuel pump and wiring and exhaust...

If you get rid of the rear diff. and axles it will be just a few pounds heavier than fwd, you'll have better rear suspension and better rear brakes.

Aaaand you'll be able to buy a 25mm rear IPD sway from the group buy I've been harassing Lucky about. :D
