Heading east down a street in Ottawa, the car in front of me swerved into the other lane, exposing a red honda civic. I had no chance to react any sooner so I slammed on the brakes and slid into her. Older chinese woman just sitting in the middle of a busy road! Anyways, Hopefully it can get fixed, insurance covers it. Her bumper hit above mine so there isnt any structural damage, just rad/IC/AC. and some paneling.

Still sucks though, about 6 months after I spent $3700 on a repaint and body work :(

:(

How was it no one's fault? And why was she stopped in the middle of the road?

She told the cop she was making a turn...apparently chinese people need 5 minutes to drive into a driveway. The cop said there is no way to prove that she wansn't trying to turn, but in his report he said that he wrote that she was stopped. He said it's up to the insurance companies to determine fault. Mileage is 270,000

I don't think there is frame damage. The bumper cover (having being recently installed) was just jarred when the front of the hood was smooshed. I sure hope they fix it, I have many plans this summer!

  Easy now.

(Plus there's a joke in there somewhere, now that Volvo is about to be owned by the Chinese)

Anyway, glad you're ok.  I'm guessing it's going to the junkyard.

hehe... I was driving around last night after a snow storm in my Honda Passport 4X4. Kept repeating "Iz wuz born 'n raised in Knoxville. I only brake on icy overpasses and steep downhills." Unfrickin' believable stupidity...

Your car isn't a big asset to your insurance company, sadly. +1 on going to the junkyard.

At least you're ok

did it matter if the other driver was chinese, black, white, orange green, ect? you would have hit them anyways. it is up to you to have control over your vehicle. here in Pennsylvania, USA, it would have been your fault. lucky the laws maybe different in canada. good thing everyone is ok. looks like another nice "R" gets to see the scrap heap. :(

You're right, it doesn't matter who's behind the wheel of the other car, and it also doesn't matter who was driving my car. An accident would have happened either way. The roads were frozen, I had winter tires, but it was just one of those things that was going to happen whether I wanted it to or not. Really too bad, I hope the insurance fixes it. It's mostly just the hood and fender, headlight and a rad maybe IC. Luckily it hit above my bumper so there isn't any frame damage.

Luckily you and everyone else is OK, but really, you should know better to slow down when it's icy out. And slamming on your brakes in icy conditions is always a bad idea, don't they teach you how to handle snow and ice up there? 1-2 carlengths between you and the other drivers is the recommended distance for dry roads - double that for icy. That way, if someone swerves into your lane, there is plenty of room to stop safely.

Sounds like you did not leave enough room between you and the other cars on the road or you were going too fast for the conditions. In any case, hope you learned a valuable lesson about safe winter driving.

Ugh...the guy swerved out of my lane at the last minute. Leaving at least 2 car lengths in front of me and the stopped civic. The speed limit was 60km/h on that road (I was probably traveling 50, gaining speed to the limit), also it was right after a light so we were all bunched together. The road's weren't covered in ice, they were just hard. As soon as the other car swerved out of the way I thought to myself, why is this car not moving..? Then hit the brakes. There wasn't anything else I could have done, no time to swerve either way. Tapping them wouldn't stop me any quicker...abs wasn't working (doesn't stop someone faster anyways) But it's only a car, who knows. If this didn't happen to me, maybe me someone else would have hit her without there being a red light and really done some serious damage.

Common sense and the law are completely unrelated. Some people will gladly run you over if they can get away with it legally. Like I saw someone bitchin' on the boards about a new law where you have to move over if there's an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. News flash: people with common sense were doing that way before there was a law, and not just for the pigs either.

Stupid people shouldn't be allowed to drive... or become politicians... or vote... lol

Yea, the car of my dreams. I've always wanted an 850 R. -35 celsius, I think it's the same in farenheit, I'm not sure though. I'll know monday if they're going to fix it or not. Or at least what the amount of damages are. The body shop estimator at work said that I should gather my receipts to try and add value to the car, like that body work and paint job of $3700 and other things I've done. Pray for the car to get fixed!

x freaking too.

Sorry this happened. I'm assuming up in Canadia the roads are probably more icy than they are in the UP of Mi. Even if you did have room to stop, the roads up here are so ice covered, its tough to slow down or maneuver out of the way. Glad my car's broke and I'm not driving in this weather!

Hope you get it fixed up soon.
