Good Evening VolvoSpeed,
I'm hoping you can provide some guidance. I have a 1994 850 (not turbo). Runs pretty good. I recently got a CE light and was directed to clean the MAF sensor which I did and now the 221 code is gone, it now reads 111 : ) However the CE light is still on. My neighbor (fellow volvo owner) told me that it will take approx 200-250 miles for the CE light to go off once the error is cleared.
My need for guidance is this, I noticed that one of the air intake hoses has a nice sized hole in it. It's the hose on top that is connected to the MAF/Airbox. So I am planning on going to the junkyard tomorrow to find a replacement hose. There is also a horrible smell when I drive with sun roof open, I assume it's my car, but not sure. The smell is sulfuric in nature. I'm thinking the hole in that hose is screwing with the MAF and some how causing that odor. Will replacing the hose get rid of this smell. Can replacing this hose potentially help increase my gas mileage?
Last but not least, I came across a thread about an Airbox Thermostat Mod and tried it on my car. Vehicle seemed to have a little more pep & idled very quietly, but the car cut off on me when I would come to a stop. So I removed the wooden dowel pins and re-installed the Airbox Thermostat. Is there anyway to tell if the Airbox thermostat is working properly or not? If mine has gone bad, I was going to check to see if I could find a working one at the junkyard? Is that a good idea or not? Since that Mod doesn't work in my 850 do you think replacing that thermostat will help increase gas mileage?
Any assistance you all can provide is greatly appreciated. Enjoy the weekend.
PS. It's March Madness Baby +
Spring is in the air : )
God Bless,
Tony940
I also forgot to mention that I wanted to check to see if the junkyard had a CD player that I could install in my car. My car only has AM/FM/Cassette, but it has a button for 'CD' on the console. 2 questions:
1) Since my radio has a 'CD' button, does that mean my car is wired for a CD?
2) If it is wired for a CD player, where exactly is the installation point?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Tony940
