wafts of gasoline when the car is running/idling.. when i shut off, the smell is particularly strong on the right rear door/wheel. tried to peak underneath and didnt' see any particularly leaks. no stain/drip marks on the ground. what i did find one rainy day was what appeared to be oily residue in a puddle of water that i happened to park on top of, underneath the exhaust tip. not quite sure if it was from my car. i haven't changed the vacuum lines that appear to be giving me an occassional cylinder 3 misfire despite decent vacuum numbers (18 on idle) and new spark plugs. any thoughts b4 i send it to the dealer? thanx

My car used to smell like gas before the tank started to leave gas stains on my garage floor. Got it replaced and all the smells went away.

PS: If you take it to Royal Motors, make sure you take everything out. The stole all my change (including bills that were in the front ashtray) and scratched my carpc's LCD.

Ohh, didn't know you had it changed already. Fuel pump lines okay?

You mentioned no fuel stains on the ground, what about on the fuel tank? Has the recall 139 been done?

the fuel tank was replaced under recall a few years ago. got a new gas tank cap that won't fit the the slot on the flap anymore.

the fuel pump and relay was replaced a year ago. (getting stuck on a bridge is pita)

my 850 had they same issue and it was a breather line on the top of the tank. it would only leak fuel with the tank was totally full. but would smell like gas super strong.

you dont have to drop the hole talk but make sure it is empty when you do replace this hose.

that was the wrong part number.

this is
9454714 - "hose"

it's part of the fuel evap system. it comes as "3 pieces." two rubber tubes on each and of a flexible plastic tube. the forward rubber tube is more exposed to the road/elements and is tapered on the front end. that was the tube that was cracked.

yeah, i didn't replace the whole 3-piece. only the front tapered piece. the middle and rear tubes were fine. this way, u don't have to drop the tank. took cj only about 10 min that required only a jack stand on the right rear and a pair of long nose pliers.

oh, the part number doesn't come with the clamps, so i just reused the old clamps.
