The audi guys do what are called "FATS"...The fats time is how long it takes to get from 4500-6500rpm in 3rd gear. Why can't we do something like this? It's a pretty accurate way to tell if modifications yield power gains and it's also a good way to just compare two or more cars.

We just need to make our own acronym that doesn't stand for "for the advancement of the S4" lol...."FAVS" maybe? "for the advancement of VolvoSpeed"???

3000rpm-6000rpm sound good?

how do they account for the difference in gearing between an auto and a manual? I'm pretty sure that 3rd gear is 1:1 ration in all 4 speed autos...

Not sure what rpm would be in third but the auto will downshift to second under 70mph. I can check tomorrow, sounds like a fun idea though. But I think 6K in 3rd with an auto is close to 130 if I remember correctly  :D

i know a big thing for DSMers is 70-90 times (getting into it at 60 or so, so your already into full boost)

we would need a sure way for us to time it......FACK we need a good data logging system

I'm not really convinced this can be accurately timed without pulling values via OBD to some sort of logger.

Yeah...well, to be fair, in additions to monitoring via OBD, we'd need to standardize as many variables as possible - which means using the same driver in all cars.
So, I'm manning up, taking one for the team, and volunteering to come beat on each of your cars in an effort to get the best times from it. (it's a dirty job, but someone has to do it) Posted Image

I'll just need each of you to cover airfare and hotel accomodations - oh, and sign a waiver releasing me from liability too.

Good points with the automatic trans issues...how about 55-100mph?...I know that I'm one of the special ones who can do it in one gear lol

I've been doing this for a while, and people make fun of it. lol. Though I usually do 50-70 or 70-90. But it's the same idea (in gear accel).

I'd say 4k to 6k would be ideal, and allow both auto and manual guys to compete. You don't need to compensate for the difference in gearing - the results show what kind of an impact those variables have on performance.

If you get this 5 Hz GPS receiver for about 65$ http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item3caafcab48
And download racechrono for free for either your smartphone or laptop... http://www.racechrono.com/ and you can customize any speed bracket you want measured.

You'd be in business for a whole lot less :)

unsure wich car this might affect ... Last but not least, the Interceptor will measure 0-60 times, as well as 1/8 and 1/4 mile time and speeds. This is accomplished through a simple menu selection. This function is not available on the ISO based (older imports) due to slower bus speeds.

No GPS, but it interfaces with OBD port so you should be able to pull RPM and SPEED values and time them in some way. I doubt it would offer the flexibility of tools designed for the specific purpose though. Obviously someone who has one could comment better.
