Hello all you current Volvo owners! I have the opportunity to buy a 1999 S70 2.4L sedan with 95,770 miles on it... anybody have an opinion on this model? Is it worth $5000? Carfax came back clean...
Thanks,
Bryan

Non-turbo? Has the Timing Belt, PCV, coils replaced, Electronic Throttle thingy all been replaced? No CEL and A/C blows cold? Manual transmission? If yes to all, then it might be worth that kind of money in my opinion. I just bought a 2001 C70, and I am about a grand deep in maintenaince/repair so far - and I'm not close to done.

I agree, $5K is pretty high if T belt, PCV haven't been done. (Its getting to be time) check to see if it has any leaks (coolant or oil) if you can. ("where have you parked this car", lol)
You might want to scare the seller on these items as well as the ETM (electronic throttle thingy) to get the price down. The car is out of its 10 Year factory ETM warranty. (approx $500 for an Xmodex replacement with lifetime warranty)
Per Gnarsh above, coil replace is $250.
FWIW , mine is pretty much dialed in now and on pure light maintenance, and I really love it...
Good luck

1998... period...
5K for a 99 is robbery unless it's mint, I mean MINT.
I would take a 98 with 175K+ on it for 2.5K to 3K over a 99 any day.

I know I sound bitter - I should explain. Had I bought a car with detailed service records and all of those things done (Timing belt - quoted $800 at an independent Volvo mechanic, PCV, IPD coils for $250, ETV), I'd have made a better purchasing decision. Given the rarity of stick shift coupes, I jumped into it (for similar money to what you are talking about here, Bryang). I haven't even gotten into suspension, and I know that is inevitable. If all I was worried about was "smart mods" like Sconey's short shifter and Silicone hoses, I'd be golden. For the short time I had the car running - the car drove great.
Also, Bryang - crawl under the engine and check for wetness, even if it isn't leaking on the ground - my motor has a few "seeping" areas.
