Tires Inflated To Recom. Pressure, But...

hi there,
when i inflated my tires to the recommended tire pressure, - don't remember exact psi, but it was considerably higher than what i've been used to - the ride was rough as hell, i could feel every little imperfection in the pavement (the roads here are in v. bad shape). keeping the pressure where it should be extends the life of the rubber and if better for fuel economy, but it was really unbearable.
so i let the air out until the ride was ok, which is the usual ~32/34 psi.
wondering, if any of you had a similar experience - or is it indicative of a problem with suspension?

Have the shocks/struts ever been replaced on the car? Running at 34/32 most of the time is just fine for typical driving. If you ever autocross, you'll want to run about 40, but otherwise, there's no reason to give yourself a headache.

Ummm, well I guess since no one else did, I will. What size tire? If your running like 18s 41psi is about right. If your on 15s you should be around 30. Also if you are on 15s or 16s and you used 40 psi, you probably used the "max reccomended" pressure, not that "reccomended" pressure. Welcome to the site,

huh.gif Would there be a different approach for tire pressure when driving over snow?

hmm on my toyo's, the max pressure was 50psi, and it's no good to run nearly near there.. causes he center to wear prematurely. i tend to do 40 all around

dawes mbc @ 12-15psi depending on climate (Darn cutout)
dirty k+n cone + kevin's old ghettorigged heatshield (need to move onto slater's "ghetto" style setup)
bfg trac t/a 205/50/16s (pretty decent for a standard tire but they're no toyo)

I run 34 all around and rotate front to back every 5k miles or so. 10k miles or so on BF Traction T/A's and no discernable wear or feathering noted. Mostly highway mileage though.

It all depends on the tire however,

Generally when driving in Snow the tire pressure should be lower than normal.

When driving in Rain the tire pressure should be higher than normal.

Most people never check their tire pressure and certainly are not going to adjust it everyday depending on the conditions.
