Just letting everyone know b/c it always comes up every few weeks:
"Which pads should I replace OEM with?"

I just installed EBC greenstuff pads on the FRONT and they are as quiet as OEM. Not a squeek. All I used was CRC anti squeel grease. No shims. I'll let you know if there is a noticable improvement in braking performance after I pass the 300 mile bed in period.

I went with the EBC b/c I heard some good stuff from the forum about them and they were 39.99 from TIRE RACK, compared 89.99 for OEM from dealer.

Did you do that "bedding" of the brake pads immediately after installing them? If so, which technique did you use?

I had the Greens too, they will start to squeal after a few 100 miles.

3k on my fronts, 1k on my back, no problems yet. Bedded them in rather carefully.

All EBC says to to do is drive carefully for the next 300 miles untill the pads are bedded. Which I guess means no heavy braking. I just test drove the car after install and did a few 30-0 slow and easy stops. Everything felt and sounded fine. I'll let you know if there are any changes.

Yeah it seems like there is more good being said about these pads than bad. Most people that I've heard with a noise complaint also say they didn't grease the pads at all. Thats no surprise.

I used to do brake jobs all the time when I worked at Volvo and also later when I worked at Chevrolet and I never had one comeback. So if these pads start maikng noise then I'll know its the pads and not the mechanic. biggrin.gif

Good to hear that they Greenstuff pads are working out for you. I need to re-grease my front pads, just because I know I didn't get the "wings" on the pads (the outer edges), so I am 99.99% positive that is why mine are squeeling. Hoping to take care of that on Monday, I'm excited.

Edit: Another good note about them, much less dusty compared to OEM pads cool.gif

I am currently running the Reds right now, much better than the greens and no noise for me at all. The greens would make noise under light braking for me. I like the greens, but I LOVE the Reds! smile.gif They do make red and green apps for the rears too, just no one carrys them.

If you go to the EBC website (don't know it off the top of my head) they list several authorized EBC dealers that have the Redstuff pads for front and back.

Not %100 on this but I believe with the reds you loose performance until the pads reach a high temp so for normal driving this may not be the best choice. I'm sure someone knows the temp specs exactly.

They don't take much longer to heat up, but they work they'll pull your hair out on a hard brake! blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif cool.gif I love them! Next I'm gonna try porterfields in the front and reds in the rear.

The reds are still consider street pads. You aren't going to endanger your life or more importantly your car by running reds on the street. The greens have better initial bite, but the reds have better fade resistance. Our cars are heavy enough to heat up the pads sufficiently.

Thats right, these car's weight so much that Reds don't take long at all to heat up. So far, best pad I have had!

That makes sense. Maybe I'll try the reds next time around.

I don't know much about the porterfield's. Are they supposed to be better than EBC or just another alternative?

Also,
Just curious: Anyone running the EBC rotors too? If so how are they?

Thanks! biggrin.gif

Had green stuff on mine. Threw them in the bin, wouldn't put them on my bicycle.

Red Stuff would be better but Ferodo DS2500 are the Daddy if you can get them in the US.
